So much for letting Yao rest. Everyone wants a piece of Yao it seems. From the Rockets summary in Thursdays Chronicle: Yao reception Rockets center Yao Ming was honored Wednesday at a reception at the Chinese Embassy in Washington. Owner Leslie Alexander, vice president Tad Brown and general manager Carroll Dawson represented the Rockets, along with the following guests: Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Texas; Eric Andell, the United States Deputy Undersecretary of Education; Michael Cappellas, the CEO of MCI World Com; and Dai Yong Kuan, the president of the Beijing Yanjing Brewery Corp. Lan Lijun, charge d'affairs, hosted the reception. Yao offered a few comments, saying the embassy seemed distant to him but that the Chinese lanterns reminded him of home, and he thanked the guests for their interest in his life and career. "It was a very nice reception," Brown said. "We appreciated their invitation and thanked them for their interest and support of the organization and Yao Ming." Before leaving for the reception at the Chinese Embassy, Yao was given an award as China's Male Athlete of the Year by Xin Ning of China's television network, CCTV.
I didn't realize I was eating dinner with the Pope. Next time, I'll look at my "What Would Yetti Do?" wristband. Thank you for expressing your concern for my maturity, or the lackthereof.
good one...lol.. its cool that yao is being seen... but it might be better if the man had rest... i mean its not like washington is 30 minutes away... leave the man alone so he can get some sleep for gads sake and i wonder what jackson lee said to yao... im sure even he would want to slap he away...lol
These political-type functions will always be time consuming throughout Yao's career. Many newspaper articles already talk about Yao improving relations between governments in U.S. and China. It's unbelievable that a 22 year old kid has to take on this kind of responsibility. I think he feels the responsiblity to attend political functions such as this. But I wholeheartedly agree that he needs rest first and foremost.
The guy's already in DC anyways, and spending a couple hours at the Chinese embassy is better than bar-hopping and seeing the sights... well, for an athlete, not for me. And kidrock, chill. Yao has his priorities in life, and he appreciates the honor, even if you don't.
yes this was probably a mandatory to attend and i see the importance of it. but i hope people realize that all these meetings/obligations yao has can't be helping his game. if the poor kid could get some rest i can only imagine how much better he'd play.
When would you start to learn from Yao about humility, dignity, loyalty? I assumed you are Yao's fan. If not, F*** off.
if he did that i woulnd not want him on the team, but he does need to get as much rest as possible... he gets tired at the of back-to-backs and road trips
I remember I watched a show about Kobe. Kobe is not close to his teammates because he does not want to go to strip clubs, bars with his teammates. I guess those are the places guys on the team gel together.
whats with all the hostility here? and I thought Yao Ming's humility was beginning to rub off on the people in this forum.
Actually, that's not quite right. Kobe wouldn't hang with his teammates because he wasn't old enough to get into the strip clubs and bars his teammates were hanging out in.
