sooner or later in offseasons he has to decide to ge better as a basketball player or play for his national team.
I don't mind him playing this year or the next year ( olympics) but after that he is gonna have to decide to take the offseason off and wokout to become a better player.

Thats what Michael Jordan, Bird, Magic and all the great ones did. they didn't play for the national team every offseason but worked out and got better at the fundamentals.

Because sooner or later Yao wil lbe our go to player and if the cannot consistently deliver 25 - 12 we won't be able to go deep in the playoffs.

I hope Yao enjoys the next 2 offseasons playing for China and then only play in the olympics for China's national team

I'd rather Yao choose his national team. It sickens me how players in all sports are choosing club over national team these days.

If China needs Yao to play for them, he must play. That's how I see it, and that's how Yao sees it.

Yes, I am a Rockets fan first, but it wouldn't reflect too brightly on Yao's character to ditch his national team for his club.

This is why the U.S. ended up 6th in the Worlds. Because players chose club over country, and now the world doesn't think as much of the NBA as they used to.

Yao doesn't have a choice. He HAS to fulfill his offseason committments to the National Team. Its in his contract.

I think it is admirable that he is willing to do that. Olajuwon used to go without water during daylight hours including game days during Ramadan every year. It's called dedication. I know it is uncommon among many players today, but it shouldn't be.

Yao can get better by playing for the national team.

Heck, how is he going to get better if he is not playing.

Yao will get better simply by playing ball, he is only 22 and has a lot of room to improve.

Think of how much China will rely on Yao now..they will dump it in to him every time....good, he needs the practice.

I remember reading that one complaint of the Chinese National Team was that the guards simply weren't good enough to actually get Yao the ball.

They might not be good enough to get Yao the ball against the better teams in WC. But I think they shouldnt have that problem in the Asian games.

Professional Soccer play for their countries all the time even during the regular season. Though their club coaches frown at this, these players still find a way to excel in spite of that. All Yao has to do is revolutionize how we view Club Vs Country issues by simply dilering big time. And he definitely will.

Why is this an issue? It was in the terms that the Chinese groupS and NBA/Rox signed to effect his coming to America.

I love the guy. I wish there were more like him in the NBA, more in all sports (probably in all walks of life).

Give me Yao and Ray Allen and Grant Hill and David Robinson. Give me Vlade (please, without the flops) , even Dikembe (please, without the assinine elbows).

I am sure I am missing some other quite laudable individuals.

This is strickly an opinion lol. Yao isn't the 2nd best center in the league to non-Rockets fans. I think that Silver ribbon might go to Big Ben down in Mo Town. One of the shortest centers in the league, yet dominant on the defense end and rebounds like there is no tomorrow.

this is key. i'd like to see a physical trainer AND a fundamentals coach who can teach him about positioning and footwork.

You know,I have an interesting question for chinese posters or chinese media.

What "style" of play does MING want the rockets to use?

We have heard from the fans here, and on radio, and from rudy, but I have yet to here from Ming what style he thinks is best.

Theres iso, full motion, triangle, low post back it in back it in,. Right now the rockets do half iso,and half back it in,back it in.

Neither one fits ming. Poor ming. I bet he is counting the days left on his contract.

Until he meets Phil jackson ,or goes to sac-town,or utah,he will never reach his potential.

Yeah, why don't we send the entire Rockets team with him, and threaten them that if they don't make the playoffs next year this is where we'lll send 'um.
