If Rockets don't make the playoffs and Dallas exit first round playoff, would you do this trade?

Rockets have a center in Cato and Dirk could be a better fit with Francis and Mobley.

Dallas desperately needs a Center. They have Walker, Jamison at PF position. This would address Dallas need for an inside presence.

    I dont get it.

If Yao becomes an inside presence, then why do you want to trade him??

If Yao doesn't become an inside presence, then why would would Dallas want him???

Sounds like you are just trying to stir up trouble.

Yao isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

dont count on shutting down the paint. dirk is only as good as his shot is falling, doesnt give you anything on the other side of the floor.

That's so strange, I was pondering this just a few days ago.

It's intruiging because Yao may not be a good enoug interior presence for us, but he would definitely be better than anything the Mavs have at C. Plus, there's the whole being Chinese thing, and it's no secret that the Nelsons are in love with this guy.

On the other hand, Nowitzki is good for around 23ppg with 9 rebounds, which is better rebounding and scoring than Yao and MoT. Plus, he steps up in the playoffs.

You'd really have to think about this one, because a Nowitzki/Cat/Francis team led by JVG could really go places.

But then you'd have to ask yourself, if Dallas can't make it with Nowitzki up front, then what makes us htink we can? Are Francis and Mobley better than Nash and Finley? Unlikely.

I'd probably do it if they took MoT, and sent back Nowitzki and Najera.

The original trade doesn't work cap wise anyway.

Oh but it will when Yao gets max money. Thats a couple years from now. By then we'd have a better idea of where the team is going and id almost do it now if i could. dirk is already an amazing player, we have a good center in cato, why not? Besides the publicity we'd be losing but I'd rather have W's anyway.

Yao won't be getting the MAX till 2005, and even then, he'll be a BYC player.

So we either trade him now with a contract, or we'd have to arrange a 3-team trade with a team that has capspace in 2006.

OR, we can wait 3 years and a half, THEN trade him for Dirk, if that's what you're proposing.

This poll is just for entertainment value.

For YOF, would you do this trade? I think Yao would be amazing with Antoine and Nash.

Although I do agree with Sane that MoT's contract have to be included, I don't think a bum knee Najera would help the Rockets. Maybe Josh Howard coming to Houston. I do think Yao has more trade value than Dirk (Not neccessarily a better player right now but with more potential with the right team). It works under the Cap with the trade exception Houston has. Houston might be able to get Jamison as well. But nobody want him.

why can't you get it through your head that Yao is not going anywhere, he's too much of a marketing goldmine to let go, even if it might, keyword might, help team chemistry

Exactly. Let's face it Dirk is the closest thing to Larry Bird that we've seen and I would love to see him play here.

I think Yaos gonna be great in a few years though so this won't happen. Fun to think about though right?

wasabi, nothing is impossible in the NBA. It's a business. Les would take money and a combination of talent from any number of teams with deep pockets. Cuban could certainly throw cash in the deal as well to get the deal through.

    Yes,

Because Cato + Dirk > Yao + Cato.

We know Dirk has the killer instinct and is actually FLEET of foot, whereas Yao is slow of foot, and has not shown the killer instinct yet.

They are both the same age too, or within a year...so, yes on the trade.

As I must have posted about a million times before to kill this one when it came up, I would LOVE to have both on the same team...just imagine it...

    PG whoever, doesn't matter
    SG Francis
    SF Kirilenko
    PF Dirk
    C Yao

This team would destroy just about everyone. Make Nash the PG and Peja the SG and I would LOVE to see US starting five vs. International starting five at the all-star game.

    Kidd----------------------------------------Nash
    Kobe---------------------------------------Stojakovic
    Pierce--------------------------------------Kirilenko
    Garnett------------------------------------Nowitzki
    Shaq---------------------------------------Yao Ming

If nothing else, it would be a heck of an entertaining game to watch.

Kidd is the master creator, but Nash has a much higher fg and ft % and much less turnovers, so this one might be closer than many might think.

Kobe is a machine, but again, the international guy dominates fg %, 3-point % and ft %.

Pierce is one of the best guys in the game, but I bet that Kiri would shut him down.

Nowitzki has dominated Garnett in playoff series before - as great as Garnett is, this is the truth, don't even try to dispute it.

Yao Ming blocked Shaq for Shaq's first three shots when they played against each other. He might be far from being the physical specimen Shaq is, but Shaq might not totally destroy him either.

This game would be so much fun to watch!!!!!

Anyway, as for the thread starter's question, no, but I would trade everyone else and Les and JVG and the Toyota Center for Dirk.

    Yes.

Dirk is a legit franchise type of player and still has a lot of room to improve. His defense should improve a lot under JVG.

Dallas is not going anywhere this year and they might just pull the trigger on a Dirk for Yao and MoTay deal.

But who would they play? After the first game or two, there would be no more entertainment value.:)

Listen, stop bashing trade threads. You knew DAMN WELL coming into this thread that it was a trade thread, and that your post would even bump it up.

I'm sick of all the whining about trade threads. "it will never happen".... So frikkin' what? It doesn't matter. We're not trying to predict the future, we're just trying to compare the values of our players vs other players, and also sugesting what kind of players would improve our team.

You can be constructive about it, or you can just whine, it's upto you. But just give up the lame "oh no not again" trade posts because unless they get banned or get a seperate room, they will keeeeeeeeeeeeep on coming.

Just discuss whether or not you think some of the trades mentioned are fair, which team is winning on the trade, and possible problems in each scenario. Yes, even though it probably WON'T happen.
