Yao first game after injury. A sluggish start for Yao and Yao shooting a 3pts and score. USA shakes off sluggish start China nearly became the first team to hold a halftime lead against the United States since NBA players began competing internationally in 1992, but the U.S. team recovered from its poor start to win 84-65 Saturday night at the World Championships. "I was not surprised, because when a strong team is playing a weak team they usually are very relaxed,'' China coach Wang Fei said. Relaxed might not be the correct word. To hear U.S. coach George Karl describe it, his team was "startled'' before it turned up its defensive intensity and held China to 13 points in the third quarter and 10 in the fourth. China held a 28-16 lead after one quarter and remained ahead until the final 6.5 seconds of the second quarter. Just two years ago at the Sydney Olympics, the Chinese team lost by 47 points. That defeat was so lopsided that Chinese center Yao Ming said it "may not be in our generation or the next'' before China can defeat the United States in a premiere level men's basketball tournament. For a while Saturday night, it looked as though his prediction might be off by about 80 or so years. Yao pumped his fist in glee after hitting a 3-point shot to give China a 10-4 lead early in the first quarter, and the crowd gasped in astonishment as the Americans fell further behind as the quarter progressed. China used backdoor cuts and timely jumpers to open a 28-16 lead at the end of the first quarter. Yao, plagued by foul trouble, finished with 10 points, six rebounds and three assists. China committed 22 turnovers.
dude, you didn't post this thinking it was new right? i'm guessing you did because the whole "first game after injury thing." good stuff.
I know one thing, Yao would'nt be able to attempt a 3 pointer with JVG lurking around! Yao might as well heave 3ptrs to his delight while in China! Shoot the treys big fella!
Well, first the World Championship has not yet started. It will be from August 19 ~ September 3. Second, it is not yet August 7 when US national team will play China national team in Guangzhou. Third the current head coach of China is not Wang Fei, but Jonas Kazlauskas. Fourth, if it is now August 8, do you think I will not have posted match photos and box scores of the US ~ China game here on Clutchfan site ??
Yeah, how can I forget about pryuen. Anything related to Yao, posters here have no chance of posting ahead of pryuen. Keep up the good work, pryuen. I'm not familiar in regards to Chinese Team. It make me look like a fool.
I'm still pissed that the Lakers beat the Nets in the finals 4-0 this year. Mark my words, the Nets are making it to the finals next year.
I think we should trade Griffin for Lewis, I fear griffin will start to try and shoot his girlfriend, and use drugs.
KINGS WERE ROBBED!!!! BTW, who is this Lebron James kid that everyone is so hyped about even though he is only a high school junior.
