Yao ming is excelling in his rookie season for the Houston Rockets. He is definitely a candidate for rookie of the year, helping Houston to a 9-6 won-lost record.
He has replaced Kelvin Cato as the starting center for the Rockets and is helping them with his proficiency in shooting, rebounding, passing and blocking shots.

I think he will be a lot like what Parker was like last year. He had nice stats on a great team, and was hyped up and was 2nd in ROY voting because he HAD NICE STATS ON A GREAT TEAM. I think that the way the Rocket's offense is ran, it will be impossible for Yao to have "amazing" stats (other than his FG%,) so i think that he will end up being the "runner up."

My money is on Wagner after his rescent exploision, but Ming could easily be if the Rockets change their offense for Ming.

i have to agree about wagner over yao for ROY. wagner will be able to put up huge numbers on that horrible team. d. miles is overrated and hurt along with ilgauskus who is just overrated and ricky davis isn't being a good boy right now. all of which equal a lot of playing time for wagner as the number one option in their offense and running their offense for that matter. plus wagner is a baller too...he can pass, shoot, drive, play d.

    a few other things....

    1. for yao to win ROY he needs to start posting those 25/12 games night in and night out.

    2. looks like jay williams wasn't the best guard

    3. this draft class is shaping up to be a pretty good one yao, wagner, hilario, bulter, jay williams, ginobili, gadzuric, (hopefully boki and tito :) ), and gooden

Wagner is the real thing, in only 5 games hes proved that hes special. The problem he will have is there are many guys in the league that have his type skills, very few can match Yao.
Another problem Wagner will have.... when he scored 25pts against the Knicks, his team was being blown out by 33.

I dont think Yao has to score 20 ppg to be ROY. His presence in a game causes factors that cant be measured on a stat sheet. If the Rockets smooth out the offense, run the majority of their plays through Yao and go to the playoffs. Yao will easily be ROY...

I think if Houston makes the playoff this will really help Yao in the ROY race. If Houston makes it I'm sure Yao would be a big contributor and that alone with a playoff team will probably win it for Yao

I think Wagner's stats will level out a bit. I think it would be hard for a rookie to keep that for a full season. Plus his fg% is not that good at all. Especially when you compare it to Ming's

But I guess with all that said it is between Ming, Wagner, and Gooden.

A lot of rookies do really well at first but level off at the end. But that is a possibility with Ming as well. But Rudy has been doing the best he can with conserving on Ming's minutes.

I see Ming getting this though.;)

Isn't ROY voting based on regular season games?

Yao for ROY? Probably not with his current stats, but I'll settle for Rockets getting into the post season. :D

Most likely Wagner will have better stats than Yao or Gooden. But people need to look at how these stats are achieved. Cleveland is such a bad team that they may just let Wagner play lots of minutes and get lots of offensive oppurtunities and get lots of points. But lots of these games are blow-out games and these stats are much watered down. If ROY is rewarded based on whole impact of the game, I think Yao Ming will win hands down, assuming Rockets let him get more touches!
