In the past Yao looked like he was having fun especially when the Rockets won and he was having a good game. I saw not one smile from from Yao during the Atlanta game. Anyone else notice? Yao is the good obedient hard working guy, but I fear JVG's no fun worry wart style is getting to him.
I saw him smile. I'm not sure what you are talking about. You are trying to read too much into nothing.
Actually I noticed him smile a few times. He was joking with TMac at the FT line towards the end when he got fouled. I think I've seen more emotion out of him this year than in the past. Of course I really don't care if he's smiling or not during games as long as he's doing well.
It is not just Yao. JVG could make winning the lottery seem like wearing a colostomy bag. The guy sucks the fun out of anything...... JVG is a cancer, pure and simple a blight on the Rockets, he needs to be cut out. DD
I imagine that the refs may be annoying Yao more than anything. As for not having fun, he's may just be trying to get more aggressive during the game.
Yao was all smiles and laughs when he smothered tmac at the end of the san antonio game. If you dont remember, I have the video to prove it.
Yao's not enjoying the game is hurting his creativity and performance. Remember his slap pass to SF in his rookie season? Remember his no-look passes and touch passes two years ago? Remember his Shanghai shakes? We just don't see those any more! I am not saying fun is more important than wins, but it is clear when Yao has fun he is more creative and more efficient. Nowadays, he often look hesitant or even clumsy. I think he is thinking "JVG is on to me and I'd better play safe". That takes away his passion and his potential.
Uhm.......I would like to point out that if all you want to do is have fun then competitive sports is probably not the right profession for you. You need to be hungy, angry, relentless, aggressive, open to constructive criticism, able to learn from your mistakes, not afraid to take risks, a die hard competitor......I could continue... Any player worth his weight in salt should strive to be better and to have a coach that strives for perfection should be a blessing. Do you think for once that Larry Bird was having fun out on the court? Hell no he was looking to kill his oponents (figuratively speaking of course). Jordan was the same way. And if the coach doesn't do the complaining and correcting then you better have a player willing to do it like MJ or LB. Having fun has nothing to do with it...
He can wait till we are up by 20 points and then start smiling when the buzzer sounds. I want him to be aggresive and start throwing bows.
Glynch, you act like Yao is a total wimp who will crumble just because he is struggling a little and his coach is mean. You should have a little more confidence in him.
Hey I could be wrong. I was just watching his reactions when he was sitting on the bench a time or two. I wasn't watching him in particular the whole game. I hope you guys are right. Just a feeling I got when I did watch him. As someone said he was very animated when T-Mac had his miraclle 35 seconds. The Atlanta game was pretty boring.
BTW, did people notice that McGrady said it was fun about him and Dirk going against each other after the first Mavs game? I didn't like that very much.
