He's substituting Yao for Year... You see ROY stands for "rookie of the year", but instead of saying Rookie of the Year he is saying Rookie of the Yao... I think he likes Yao. I hope that helps.

I think that Yao will win the ROY award. Gooden playing on a terrible team should give Yao a boast also.

Yao cheats with his statistics. The reason why he has a high FG% is because he shoots so little. That is cheating.

I don't think he deserves Rookie of the Year. He commits many turnovers and fouls in games. He has very little blocked shots, which is terrible for a center. He has a very low rebound average. His PPG average is below 10. It would be a mistake to vote him Rookie of the Year.

For that reason, the NBA has a minimum shot attempt level that you must be ahead of to be considered the league's leading shooter. Yao's at that level.

    Rebounds? Per 48 minutes:

    Yao: 13.9 rpg
Tim Duncan, last year's rebounding champ: 13.5 rpg

You can't blame Yao for not getting all these rebounds when he's not getting the minutes. All you can judge him by is his production in those minutes.

    Blocks? Per 48 minutes:

    Yao: 2.7
    What's wrong with that?

If the voting were held right now, no, Yao probably won't be leading the ROY voting. But, the point is that his numbers are greatly skewed by his first two weeks, when he rarely played and was clearly not ready. If based on the past week you don't expect him to average more than 10 ppg, you're insane.
