Does anyone else get annoyed when Yao gets beat for a play, or out hustled, and he claps his hands and has this "dang it" look on his face. Tonight a NOBODY rips the ball out of his hands, and Yao does the Clap. Is it possible that Yao will never develop that mean streak that he needs to become the player he could be.... I think he is just too dang nice....and when things go wrong, he just goes....AWWW SHUCKS !!! (in chinese of course). It seems that he may never get that "I refuse to lose" attitude. Or if he is shown up, like tonight on that rebound and dunk, he goes down and gets physical, like a 7'6" 330 pound center should. Yao is softer than Jon Koncak. DD
YES I DO, I HATE THAT ****. Its like saying, "Oh well, get 'em next time." I hate it most when the refs make a bad call and he just looks down like a wimp. Its a wonder none of his teamates tell him anything. This has been going on for some time now. Somebody needs to tell him something or he needs to listen. Man, that make me angry!!! Ok, I feel better
man... almost forgot about koncak. yes, the "awww... man." thing is annoying. have you ever seen someone that was scorned so much that they became timid, nervous, and afraid to do something wrong? that's what yao looks like. it's almost as if he's scared that if he doesn't catch the ball that jvg will beeyotch him out, tmac will lose confidence in him, and his teammates will follow. the dude has to be thinking to much. argh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i can't remember changing the channel this many teams during a game in on season.
Wow, this is exactically what I was about to post. It is more like a lady during the worst week of the month. And then he does this gay little "uhhhh" thing, and lets 5-11 guards beat him up. If he was in a fight he probably would slap instead of punch!
Someone needs to take Yao aside and explain that he needs to fight like a warrior for rebounds. At least sling some elbow and clear out the lane. What is the deal with all of his half way tip toe and try to touch the ball with his fingers stuff... YAO- just bull your way to the ball, jump and grab the rock!!!
I don't think Yao has ever been taught HOW to rebound. My guess is that he has always been so tall, that he has never learned how to properly Box out, or how the ball bounces off the rim etc. Dennis Rodman used to always go to the opposite side of the shot because he said 75% of rebounds go long....I wonder if Yao even knows this? DD
Hey guys, have you all forgotten about the Olympics? Yao b**** slapped everyone from the little New Zealand player who tried to talk smak to him , to his own sorry teammates when they under perfomed and disobedience to Del Harris. Yao even called out the head Commie b*stard in charge of the CNT and guess what the Commie gave in to Yao. Yao does have a mean streak! Yes I'm annoyed as hell every time he does that gay ass "Aw Shucks Hand Clap" but have you ever seen that when he is playing for China ? The answer is a hell no. Clearly Yao is still adjusting to fitting in and finding himself in America, don't kid yourself if you think it can happened overnight. Very few foreign born players can come in and dominate the NBA immediately, and don't forget the language issue. Yao is clearly suffering under Van r****d, like many posters said it already, he's playing ball while looking over his shouder. As much as I love the Rox and have been a diehard fan since the 70s unless something is changed from the top, Yao is better off going somewhere else!
Hmm maybe Yao should watch some more of Shaq and Rik Smits and Sabonis...he needs to remember how to play basketball....:/ and damn stop getting ripped lol. Don't let them foul you..
Yao's struggles are mental - not a matter of technique in my opinion. That pathetic rebounding play on the free throw miss was because Yao was not prepared to rebound the ball. He wasn't prepared to go after it aggressively. Almost like he expected that the opponent would not try to go around him. Once that happened, he tried to react, tried to act agressive, but by then it was far too late. All too often this year, Yao has been missing in action. When he decides to take over virtually no one can stop him, but he hardly ever engages in that mentality unless everything is going perfectly for him. That doesn't mean he needs to be shaq, he just needs to have faith in his game and stay in the ballgame mentally. In general...When things go poorly, it almost seems like he tries to be agressive but instead of going to his moves, he tries to crash into the defender and brings the ball right too him. I don't understand why this can't be communicated to Yao or why he is having such a hard time figuring it out. And I am a huge Yao fan.
I agree with everything in your post. Tonight might be a special case given the extraordinary circumstances. I have seen much more confidence from Yao as of late.
After all, Yao is too nice a guy. If he can throw a punch after loosing a rebound, I will be thrilled. Also to those defenders who flop on every contact, Yao should hold this idea: let them call a charge but I am going to bump you to the upper level of the statium so next time you would dare to stay in my way. Why cannot he direct his shoulder to someone's chin and knock his neck loose?
