If Yao Ming gets the starting center spot for the All-Star game this year I'm going to puke. Clearly Shaq deserves it. No, I am not a Lakers fan, I love Yao, but I also think it's not fair for the integrity of the All-Star game if Yao gets the starting position again. We all know half of those votes come from China anyway, and it'll give a bad image that Chinese people are bias towards Yao just because he's Chinese and ignore Shaq despite his accomplishments.

That being said, the only good argument over this is that the All-Star game is for fans and it should be whatever the fans want. In that light, I'm okay with it. Otherwise, if it's about who deserves the spot, the position clearly falls on Shaq.

Um, Yao led the voting that was carried out in the arenas, not just the voting over the 'net.

I'd reserve judgment on who is more deserving until closer to the All-Star game. Yao's stats do not match up with Shaq's at the moment, but they may improve. Also, Yao may very much be deserving on merit if the Rockets can maintain a better records than the Lakers, even if Yao's stats are not as good.

That still dosn't justify that Shaq should get the starting spot this year solely on the basis on who deserves it more.

Using "integrity" in the same sentence as "all star game" is anything but rational logic...

Well, if you want Shaq to start at the Allstar game, then you need to post it at the Lakers boards and get the LA fans to vote for Shaq. Please do not expect the Rox fans to vote for Shaq. It is natural for the Rox fans to vote for Yao. If you puke for that then you should carry a bag all the time to collect your own waste.

    Kryten128,

Some good points. However, I don't see Yao scoring 25+ points on a consistant basis. Not with Van Gundy's system and the way he's so passive. Like I said, I love Yao, but I'm realistic enough to know he won't be who we all want him to be until a few seasons down the road. This is still Steve and Cuttino's team...anyone who doesn't see that doesn't seem to understand what's going on with Yao as a decoy.

I do see that Shaq will score 20-25+ points every night because he is the main option and he is willing to assume leadership of the team. Anyway, we'll see.

Lastly, if the Rockets end up with the best record once the All-Star break appears, and Yao averages around 15 points while Shaq Daddy has 25+ and the Lakers are around the second or fourth seed, Shaq still deserves it.

Jesus Christ, this argument is getting lame.

FYI, last year Yao got most of his votes from the United States of America

    Bobliu,

You misunderstand. I am a Rockets fan and will hope for the success of the team. But I draw the line at biasness when it comes to giving due respect. Of course I like Yao more then Shaq, but I also like Bostjan Nachbar more then Payton. Should I believe Nachbar should go to the All-Star game and Payton shouldn't? Let's be rational. No, I don't believe I should post in a Lakers board simpily because I know that at this point, Shaq is a better player then Yao. Let us not bring stats into this, for it would clearly point that Shaq is better then Yao at this point so far ( although it is unfair for Yao because he's new ).

all-star game is all a popularity contest its not who deserves it have you not figured this out? Theres so many players that deserve an all star spot that dont get it because their underated why arent you b****ing about them? besides i heard most of yao's votes were in america and probably true considering everyone hates the lakers and shaq has already been in all-star games everyone knows what he can do

Anyone thinks an opponent is more deserve than an Rocket will & should get the heat here. All-star game is a fan fare, voted by the fans. If the fans like Yao than Shaq, so be it.

Go back to your Lakers board.

    Olliez,

I was stressing to make a point. My point is that Shaq deserves the All-Star starting center spot more then Yao. If Yao gets it it just means that fans like him more. It doesn't make Yao a better player.

The way you people respond makes me ashamed to be a Rockets fan. You people act like Celtic fans.

    Daoshi,

Okay, so if I don't show eternal, bias love for the Rockets, I am instantly ' not a Rockets fan '. If being ignorant, stupid and hostile is what it takes to be a Rockets fan then I don't think I want to be one. Fortunately for you guys, there's people who are bigger fans of basketball then they are for one single team.

Shaqs wimpy fat butt will be complaining about a minor injury and thus sit out the allstar game. Thats why Ming deserves it.

WRONG! American voted for Yao Ming over Shaq in nearly every instance. China had a low turn out much lower than expected.
