Yao A Hack - opposing teams trying to get Yao Ming to foul them. Hack A Shaq - opposing teams trying to foul Shaq so he can shoot FTs at a horrible percentage. Right now I am seeing this trend happening on Yao Ming as other teams are employing the "Yao A Hack" strategy after listening to the past NBA games... Thanks Rudy for setting a bad example for the other 28 NBA teams during the 2000 Olympics when Yao was fouled out in the second quarter after rejecting Carter and Payton... However, "Yao A Hack" will only work for a short time as Yao will quickly learn not to foul on people but instead draw fouls from other people...
GotGame15- did you read what he said? however, they were hacking on Yao quite a bit. I thought McCullough should have caught a flagrant for that one hard foul.
Hack A Yao would mean fouling Yao, which will definitely lead to easy FTs for him... that's a no-no for other teams...
"Yao A Hack" is a good term for what's going on... All the players are driving at him to trying to tempt him to foul them. But, Yao is just standing his ground and he's not getting called against him. It's not working! Ha ha ha! The opponents want Yao to hack them sooo bad that they are willing to risk an offesive foul for it. Trying to foul Yao out is a good thing. They know he's a force! A rookie that can't be denied!
The 4 fouls tonight on Ming, most of them were caused by opponents driving to the basket and Ming was the last line of defense. Hopefully there should not happen too often. I have yet to see an opponent guarded by Ming to try to drive to the basket.
Yao cant help. He's trying to play both end w/100% and block almost every shot. Versus Shaq, his D is little different...
And also let's hope Yao's shooting touch won't go away as he gets stronger... then other teams will really considering to employ "Hack A Yao"
No, at least 2 of the fouls on Ming tonight were on over-the-backs on offensive rebounds. I think I remember two Yao fouls on defense... but maybe it was only one? I agree, Yao's doing a good job of keeping his arms straight up on defense. And I think he shows good control of aggression on offensive rebounds (so that he doesn't pick up too many more fouls with 4, as he played in the 4th). I don't think he's going to foul out of a lot of games.
Two things: 1. The NBA is already giving Yao preferential treatment. I'm not complaining, I think it's great. Mark Cuban was right when he said that Yao was already getting calls like a 13 year veteran. 2. The NBA is a business, and they understand the financial implications of Yao becoming a superstar. He is going to get the benefit of a lot of calls solely for that reason alone, just as Michael Jordan seemed to do pretty much whatever he liked (within reason). So, with that we have to assume that the "Yao A Hack" strategy is going to backfire at best. Yao will generally get away with more than the opposing center on a night-to-night basis which is a good thing for us, and a not-so-good thing for the rest of the league.
Axeman, can you explain why on earth did Yao get at least 4 fouls per night? I don't agree with Cuban... he's just envy at the Rockets at landing Yao Ming...
