Who else believes everything should be run through Yao like everything used to be run through Olajuwon ? In my humble opinion, it should be and RA needs to make it happen. JVG used T-mac and Yao effectively but he made it a 2-man team, surrounded by a bunch of role players. It's time T-mac accepts a lesser role and make this team what it should be: Yao's team.

When Don Chaney was the Rockets' coach, we ran a lot of pick n rolls with Kenny & Thorpe and the emphasis wasn't on Olajuwon. We were a good team then, but things started rolling when Rudy T took over. He looked at the talent we had, drafted the right players and the first thing he did: make Olajuwon the leader and run everything through him. It worked perfectly and even when Drexler came over, it stayed Olajuwon's team.

So with that being said, T-mac shouldn't be worried about getting enough touches because Drexler got enough. We should get the ball to Yao every single possession when he's on the court and work from there. Post him down low with Scola on the other side and let Rafer, T-mac and Artest roam around the perimeter. Then try to move as much as possible by setting screens and cutting, something the Rockets worked perfectly under Rudy T.

We all know this team will never run the RA offense the way it's supposed to be run and RA said he's implementing some aspects of it and adapting wherever needed. So why not adapt in the right way and make Yao the #1 scoring option on the team ? That way, when he's doubled, any player can just cut to the basket and get a lay-up, dunk or the foul. That's how Horry got a lot his points and Artest / T-mac can get their points the same way. The other 2, so Rafer and Artest / T-mac can roam around the perimeter and shoot the three if Yao kicks it out. Or they can choose to move the ball quickly around to the other side, where Scola is set or if they ran a screen, Yao's there again.

    What do y'all think ?

no. we should not set anyone to No1. option. only dumb offense set No1. No2,No3....

get Yao the ball every possession=JVG offense=no offense=dumb.

No! Yao is not Olajuown and he never will be. Running the entire offense through Yao would kill this team. You just cannot come down and dump it in to Yao on every possession like Rudy did with Dream. Yao is WAY too turnover prone to have the entire offense on his shoulders. Yao is a great complementary piece and every effective in the post but if you put too much on him you would wear him out. Keep using him the way Adelman has been and everyhting should be fine.

Think that this offense needs to flow and find the open man. Yes we should definitley get Yao touches as much as possible, since he is the best player on the team. As soon as they start to double or triple Yao he can kick out and find the shooters that we are supposed to have. But no matter what Yao is option number 1. As long as we move the ball around instead of dribbling the clock away it seems like our team runs great. Eventually someone ends up open and we get a good shot to get more points.

If the Rockets are running everything through one player, that's bad.

And Yao isn't someone you want to start plays with on a consistent basis. He's a finisher. Move the ball, get him open deep in the paint, and then deliver the ball to him where all he has to do is drop it in.

every team has a #1 option on offense. and why don't you go back and check what were the avg. scoring total per game under jvg as versus to under adelman last year?

if (and it's a valid "if") yao stays healthy and improves his physical condition from here, there should be no question that he should be the centerpiece of the offense of this rockets team - particularly given the remarkable decline in mcgrady.

Yao is not only a finisher, he draws the most double teams too. That creates open looks for other Rockets players. Too bad with Rafer, Tmac and Ron on the court, 3 point shooting is basiclly not there. This is one of the major reason opponents can simply double team Yao more instead of playing honest defense.
Brooks can shoot 3s, but he can't get the ball to Yao. rafer can get the ball to Yao, but he can't shoot 3s.

Yao should be touching the ball on almost every single offensive possession. Whether or not he chooses to shoot is another issue.

Then again, it's supposed to be a freaking motion offense so everybody should be touching the ball instead of dribble, dribble, heave.

true. i just want to say it's not only the 3's because you don't have to shoot a 3 each time you're open. a couple of steps into the 3pt line sometimes works better (say for landry or scola).

and yao needs to improve his decision-making when doubled or in traffic.

yao just isn't something we can run plays for consistently. he's no hakeem. i think we've seen this for the past few yrs.

yao hasn't drawn much double teams this season, after that mavs game. basically, none of our stars are drawing much of double teams.

like i've said, if yao was so dominant like hakeem, i think even a dumb person would know to give him the ball all the time. when you see an all-time player like hakeem, you must be stupid not to give him the ball. we've been trying to do that with yao and it hasn't worked.

no one says yao is hakeem. but to say this offense should have no #1 option is dumb. big reason we don't have a clear identity right now.

this is something people have to get. to be a #1 option on offense, you gotta be able to score efficiently AND make plays efficiently. yao cannot do the 2nd part very well, if at all.

hakeem's assists total weren't very high, but he could make plays. if he can't post you up, he can take you outside and penetrate a little bit. if he can't post up, he can shoot a mid-range J. and he passes well, though his #s don't reflect it.

shaq really know how to pass out of double teams and he can basically direct an offense when the ball goes through him.

can yao direct an offense? when the ball goes through him, can he tell where players to go so either he can get his or tell players to get in great positions? i don't think so.

that's a key thing to being a #1 option. yao's playmaking ability is zilch. why do you think you never see yao direct an offense? tell the guards where to go? you only see rafer, artest, or tracy doing that.

so in your mind who should be our #1 option in offense? none whatsoever? even in a princeton system in sacto, they still had c-web as #1.

and avery johnson is a coach. if avery talks of this about yao, how do you think adelman feels if he runs his offense consistently through yao?

i agree with you if you think yao should get more SHOTS. that's a big difference. i love it if we move him around so he gets in position to score and just shoot.

i don't want yao to think about others. he's not very good when he thinks. just tell him to get in great positions and SCORE, SCORE, SCORE.

and the point you brought up cwebb is the perfect example. he can score yes, but also MAKE PLAYS. he DIRECTS THE OFFENSE.

right now, realistically, nobody is good enough to be a #1 option. the best one is aaron brooks. he can score AND make plays. he's the only one right now who realistically can penetrate and suck defenses.

however, if everyone is healthy, from the way adelman talks, tracy remains our #1 option. that doesn't mean he should shoot all the time, but the offense runs through him in the high post. he's not healthy to do that right now and that's why we're suffering quite a bit.

i want to see artest at the high post now. we haven't seen that. we're giving him too many isos on the baseline where he just goes 1-on-1 or just jacks up shots. we need to see his playmaking ability and put him in the high post.

There's no way T-Mac should run the offense. He's a black hole, he's got horrible shot selection and he doesn't pass. His idea of creating is to drive and dish, often in traffic.

The guy who does the best job of creating for his teammates is Aaron Brooks. He's got a little bit of a shoot first mentality right now but he's young.

what was our offensive efficiency last year after yao went down and in the playoffs? i don't think you can judge him when we only run 2 basic plays for him right now b/c of his knee.

and yes, aaron brooks should be the main playmaker right now. he's the only guy who can get into the paint consistently.

aaron the best on offense? are you kidding me? just shows how far you are from the truth.

and if everyone is healthy like we've never had any injury to anyone, then if it's #1 or #11 is debatable. but i think you should get rid of the pre-2005 mcgrady images in your head for just a bit. his health is highly unlikely to go back to be THAT healthy.

i said we have zero #1 options right now, but the best one in spurts might be AB. our offense is at its best when aaron is running the show right now (see the dallas game and basically every game this year).

look tracy last year ran our offense very well even when yao went down. the team's offensive efficiency was great, even in the playoffs in the last 4 games. tracy at the high post remains KILLER. and even when he's in the low post v. the mavs, he was KILLER, not only to score, but dish off. you haven't seen much of that, AND penetration.

we won't see the pre-05 tmac. we all know that. but hopefully when the knee gets better, we can see the "not limping" tracy and that's pretty good.
