Ok, so who is going to be willing to give up a significant lottery pick for Anthony Randolph?

I'll bet big time that they're talking to Cleveland, the Raps, or someone else w a big TE. Denver wants immediate cap savings, not a big expiring. They would have to pay luxury tax in a terrible revenue year if they brought in the likes of Eddy Curry (or Jeffries).

I said it earlier give the Knicks back their pick for Randolph and the TE in a seperate deal with someone we can cut.

I think we will acquire Birdman with that TE either with or without Anthony. Truth be told, if you give me Birdman and no Anthony while giving up basically nothing...i'd be just fine with that.

Morey's contingency plan has to be us as the 3rd team involved in the big trade to NY or CHI.

NY can offer cap relief and young, marketable talent (Gallinari depending on how high Denver values him).

CHI can offer picks (most likely mid-late 1st rounders) and young, marketable talent (Noah). CHI cleared the books for the Lebron sweepstakes so they can't offer cap relief.

Rockets can come in as the 3rd team involving either picks and/or salary cap relief.

I wonder how Morey valuates Luol Deng. Deng would be an upgrade over Battier and we could probably get him at the expense of a few expirings. Deng does have 4 years left on his contract at about 10% more than Kevin Martin. This could put us in Salary Cap hell when we re-sign Brooks and Yao. Deng is also a poor 3point shooter.

Give me one of these guys: Randolph, Noah, Nene, or the Birdman and I'll be happy. :)

The one ace in the hole in all of this is Anthony himself. Everything really hinges on whether he wants a legit shot to be a champion, or just wants the bright lights and money and 'stardom' which comes from playing in the big apple.

If he wants to actually win, he has zero shot in NY or NJ.

If he wants his best chance of being a champion, he will prefer the Rox.

This means that Denver can work out all the trade scenarios they want, but ultimately if Carmelo doesn't want to go to NY or NJ or some other perennial loser like that, he just won't sign, become a FA, and go wherever he wants to go.

It'll be interesting to see what this kid is really made of.

This guy's info is usually pretty spot-on. Seems Denver is more inclined (as makes sense) to accommodate Melo to one of his preferred destinations in the Eastern Conference.

And, like more than a few of you, the thought of acquiring Randolph and maybe Chandler in exchange for the NY draft pick obligations is out there. But only if you had another deal on the side to even out all the redundant talent.

If the Knicks really want Melo and if Melo really wants the Knicks.....

i dont see Morey facilitating a deal using our "knicks picks" UNLESS it gets Melo TO the Knicks...in which case, our picks would be worth more now than later

This is the perfect scenario for Morey to grab an asset if we can't get Melo. We have the pieces to facilitate a deal.

Nene is intriguing, he's 28 with only 2 years left on his contract, would help us vs. LA

Let him go where he wants and trade their picks back to them for value TODAY ...get Anthony Randolph....Morey has liked him for years, right?

Do you mean the Rockets get involved? With Melo and Amare on the same team I wouldn't think the Nuggets would give much value to those draft picks then.

@AlanHahn Source tells @newsday #nyknicks aren't "being as aggressive as they should" in their pursuit for Carmelo: http://bit.ly/a8uZzs #

@AlanHahn A second source admits trade talks w/ DEN for Melo is "a moot point", but Knicks have not tried to engage a third team to make it work.

What makes you think we'll get Birdman?

The prevailing sentiment here is that Melo has "no chance" of winning in either New York or New Jersey. If all Melo cares about is the bling than he will surely go there and that will only confirm my initial thesis: Melo is a punkass. I sincerely hope he proves me wrong.

Haha I bet Walsh is still bitter with Morey about trading that pick. He knows we're an ideal 3rd team...

I think that is something that should be considered if Morey does not see the 2011 draft as a very good source of talent. If Morey gave them a pick back, by reports that should give them the ability to trade for Melo.

The addition of Melo to New York would almost certainly destroy the value of the 2011 pick swap. We hold the cards on the future of the Knicks literally, and it would affect the Rockets in more ways than one. Im just not sure that Randolph is great enough of a player to give up those assets.

Essentially you could end up giving them two, maybe three assets in the 2012 first round pick, a young product like Hill, and the 2011 pick swap. Oh and maybe the trade exception to make the numbers work.

That is alot to give up if you ask me. If they have lost hope on a deal with the Nuggets for Melo and its only going to cost the Rockets the 2011 pick swap then I say go for it, but thats probably not the case.
