My guess its the agent throwing names so he makes absolutely sure he gets paid the max day one. Because detroit got ersan and is now looking at harris. Doubt they will tie up their money for someone they dont have any hope of getting.

 

Green will suck outside of Golden State where everyone is focused on Curry and Thompson at all times.
His stats are inflated across the board because of the lack of attention he gets on the floor.

Max contracts are for dominant players not good role players.

 

Green is not a dominant player. He just a good role player.

 

If it's true, it's a smart move.

You can offer him a massive, poison pill'd contract that really handicaps GSW if they decide to match your offer. And if they don't match, then you've taken away a key player on their team and added a player who would fit really well here (even though he would cripple our flexibility).

You can cross off LeBron, Love, and Leonard they will be resigning with their old teams. LMA will be the longest max worthy FA on the market this summer.

 

Max doesn't mean the guy has to put up 20/10, you pay it for a guy that makes your team a contender. Green is a guy that won't carry a team by himself, but put him on a team with great players and a go-to guy, he'll instantly make them a contender and give you the edge vs teams with similar talent. GSW wouldn't have been nearly as good without him.

Golden State inflates his stats and style of play. A player's value rests in how they fit into each particular team's system. He may be a max player for GS, but for us? Absolutely not.

 

Warriors will match no matter what.
