WALTHAM, Mass. (AP)—Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers says there is a strong possibility that Kevin Garnett will miss the whole postseason.

The All-Star forward has missed most of the last two months with a strained right knee. He had been recovering with an eye towards the playoffs, but Rivers said he had to shut Garnett down at practice Thursday morning and “there’s no way” he could play right now.

Rivers said on a radio show that Garnett was frustrated but understood that it was the right thing to do.

The defending NBA champions begin the best-of-seven first round series against the Chicago Bulls on Saturday

Now the blinders finally come off. I've been hinting at something like this a while. When an older player misses A MONTH late in the season and can only last 4 games after returning, it is very unlikely said player will be effective. I had no idea KG could/would miss the entire post-season, but it's been obvious he wouldn't be very effective if he came back. If you go back and look at what the Celts have been saying every day or two, it's been a sliding scale where the news gets worse each time they comment.

It's understandable they didn't want to blurt out this possibility any earlier than necessary, but I think went too far the other way.

Get ready for Cavs/Lakers unless maybe Wade chops LeBron down in the 2nd round. I don't see that happening.

KG's knee is starting to sound an awful lot like McGrady's situation. KG has played over 1,000 games so I wouldn't be surprised if microfracture is in his future.

KG's absence should not be a reason if ever the Celts will lose. But hey, they still are the defending champions and they still have Allen and Pierce :)

Well, at least he got his ring already. Dude has a ton of mileage on his body. Wouldn't be surprised if his career is limited from here on out.

Even if he is back, he will not be even 80%.

    Celtics are DONE.

It almost seems like karma after all the ridiculous taunting and arrogance he was displaying early in the season.

If the Celtics loses KG's absence will be a big reason why.

I honestly can't remember an NBA season where it was all too clear from the onset as to which teams will be battling it out in the NBA finals. I just had a feeling it was going to be "Lebron vs. Kobe" in the finals, and that one way or the other it was going to happen.

The Lakers will cruise to what will likely be the easiest road to a championship in NBA history. They will meet no resistance at all, the West is pathetically week and the East has nothing to offer beyond the Cavs, and even the Cavs stand no chance against the Lakers.

It has been a rather boring NBA season all along, might as well have a disappointing ending to it.

It's still a possibility. It's not likely that the C's will lose to the Bulls even if they don't have KG. It's a tough loss for them though, I still have them going to the ECF because of their defense and experience.

When Yao got those 4 fouls in the 3rd last night, honestly the first thing i thought of was Stern getting a stiffy at the thought of LA not having to go through the Blazers in Round 2

to a celts fan this feels like the yao text message i got last year. just crushing. BUT in this case it only means that if the rockets make it past the lakers, we get to play the cavs in the finals. much much easier.

the only teams i worry about playing are the lakers and jazz 2nd round. im excited about playing the blazers and in fact think theyre the "easiest" team we could have drawn.

Glad you said this. The Celts were so full of themselves during their 27-2 start to the season it was sickening. I went from liking them to strongly disliking them. Regarding the fate of their team, this doesn't bother me one bit but I hate injuries to star players.

They had a magic carpet ride last season and won a championship. The Celts and their fans should be happy with that. Turns out their window was only one year and they maxed out on it.
