http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_y...slug=aw-thomasbulls103009&prov=yhoo&type=lgns With no more contract extension talks planned with the Chicago Bulls, forward Tyrus Thomas(notes) will become a restricted free agent at the end of the season, Yahoo! Sports has confirmed. Bulls general manager Gar Forman and Thomas’ agent, Brian Elfus, had discussed broad parameters of a contract extension in recent months, but both sides said there won’t be any more talks prior to the Monday deadline.
Whoopee! Whoever signs Tyrus Thomas to a long-term contract will regret it. He has a major problem between the ears. I hope the Bulls trade him to some foolish team who drinks the Kool-Aide about Thomas' "potential".
To think that the Bulls could have kept LaMarcus Aldridge...Rose, Deng, and LMA would have been a nice nucleus.
Stromile Swift II isn't going to be at the top of anyone's FA priority list in the 2010 offseason. He'd better get his money now instead of screwing around.
No Thomas clearly hasnt panned out to be the player many thought he'd be (man that Aldridge trade is really hurting them now) but he has done more than Swift has in his career. He is a much better shot blocker and rebounder and is at least semi-consistent...granted he isnt putting up the double-doubles he probably could but if I had to pick between the two guys I go with Thomas every day of the week. but no way Thomas is going to get any money next year the bulls are making a smart move here especially when they have Noah on that team too Thomas' strengths become a bit more redundant.
Now see, that's what i'm saying. There are posters who don't even watch guys play and make comments and then say,"well I haven't watched him much." Anyone that says he's like swift clearly hasn't watched the guy play. Is he warrant his draft position? No, but that doesn't mean he's not a good player. Clearly aldridge is a better player and I wouldve kept aldridge, but thomas is a good player and would fit with a lot of teams. He's probably a 13pt 9 rebs 2 blk kind of guy. What is that worth? Probably a little more or right at mle money.
I think people like to compare Stro to Tyrus is because both of them are PF's and were high lottery picks that didn't pan out. Stro was the 2nd overall pick in the 2000 draft, lol. Talk about a bust. Granted, the 2000 draft wasn't the greatest draft, not exactly a bunch of HOF potentials in that one (maybe Michael Redd).
I think any player drafted in the top 10 that doesn't make a couple of all star games are bust. Top 10 should be a cornerstone of ur franchise and a guy that will play 10 good yrs for u. When that doesn't happen, the guy is pretty much a bust.
He's restricted. The Bulls will just wait it out and match anything they don't think is too much. Unless they package him for Brand/Boozer before then.
Surely you jest. Simply through sheer numbers argument that makes no sense. There are simply too many perennial all-stars and good players picked after the lottery for this to happen. As for Thomas, I don't think this is much of an indication for his future. It just means he's not a star to warrant an extension before the Bulls are forced to make a decision. Unless you're a franchise player, teams will usually let the RFA process play out to minimize the risks.
A lot of Tyrus hate in this thread. I would not mind the guy to go with Yao and Trevor to be honest with you. He would be a PERFECT compliment to Tracy.
Tyrus Thomas isn't a perfect compliment to anybody. He doesn't play hard enough, loses his concentration much too often and isn't mentally cut out to be a good NBA player. There was a reason the Bulls had him on the block last season. At best, Thomas is suited to be a 6th or 7th man because you never know what he's going to bring on a given night.
I think you're trying to give another slight to Battier, but Rudy Gay hasn't made an All-Star game either (rookie game doesn't count). And Mayo seems to be the cornerstone of the Grizz franchise now. One can say for a guy who's suppose to be the most talented guy in his draft, Rudy Gay has been a disappointment thus far.
Thomas deserves a roster spot somewhere and I could see him with the Bulls. Its really just a showing that the Bulls don't think Thomas will fetch much value. Which he won't. He will be paid slightly better than Landry.
