I haven't really seen any post with this content. Please lock if it was already posted. Anyway, yahoo always has this little blurbs about teams whenever they have a game coming up. I really found today's blurb really interesting because it sheds some insight on what Adelman wants to do with this team:

    • With the Rockets handing point-guard duties to speedy point guards Rafer Alston and Kyle Lowry, they want to pick up the pace, not only in fast breaks, but in getting into their half-court offense more quickly.

“We’re trying to push the ball up and not walk the ball up,” Adelman said. “The people we have off the bench, the two point guards we have, it’s to their advantage to get it up the court. And if nothing is there … then we’ve got Yao as our anchor. He’s a guy we can go to at the end. And it helps him where he doesn’t have to try to get down the court and get banged every possession. Let’s see if we can get something before you get there and then go to you.

“If we get to that point, now you can see the flowing offense, the other team cannot lock into. We’ve done it in stages but not enough. A great example is Tony Parker. He’ll push it. He’ll attack. Or then he’ll pull it back and they’ll look for something else. It’s really important he (Brooks) will pick and choose his spots.”

Brooks described the revised Rockets’ offensive emphasis in simple terms. Run to look for the “easy option."

“Then,” he said, “it’s Yao time.”

The rest of the blurb is a really good read as well, check it out

Anyway it looks like Adelman wants Yao Ming to be option 2. They want AB and Lowry to fast break and see what they can do in a broken field, and then go to Yao Ming if the defense gives them nothing. I think its great, it'll lessen Yao Ming's wear and tear if they can get easy buckets with him not banging it inside. It also looks like Artest has been affected by his bench role all along, despite his claims that he's "Yao Ming's soldier" and that he'll do anything RA and Yao told him to do. Unconsciously or not, his play all season matched his status as a bench player before Tmac's injury. Maybe now we'll see what Artest can really do. Lol, I'm really excited about the game today, let's go Rox!

it was in the chronicle article too a couple of days ago.

i don't interpret it as yao being the #2 option. adelman just doesn't want yao to bang in the post every single possession. yao has had plenty of touches lately. see the bobcats game.

I don't really think this would work. I have noticed AB pushing the ball the last few games but there is no one really else around when hes already past midcourt because hes so quick. I'm all for it though if it works.

I've always felt teams should push it on most possessions. At the very least you are getting a longer shot clock.

Adelman is trying to incorporate the 80's Lakers Showtime gameplan.

Push the ball up the court and get on as many Fast Breaks as possible
If nothing there, dump the ball to Kareem.

    BEAUTIFUL

I always have thought that Yao's game resembled Kareem's more than any other center:

Game based on skill not athleticsm

Hmm you might have something there. However Ab0 isn't half the man (literally and figuritively) Magic is though....definitely interesting to see how it all plays out.

I doubt there is any team in the league who does not want to fast break first and set up half court offense second. It's just that the Rockets have never had the personnel to do it. McGrady has always disliked running the ball and the rest of the team has not been very athletic. I can still remember JVG screaming and motioning for the team to try to fast break after rebounds but the team just didn't have the horses for it.

Now, with Brooks, Lowry, Wafer, and Scola you have a group of guys who always look to get down the court as fast as possible to see if they can get an easy bucket. Hell, Wafer is a one man fast break.

    GREAT read.

Let's see if the rox can get rolling. I have to admit that I'm more excited than I have been in a while.

It a good plan but the Rox don't have the personnel to make the most of it. When Scola is your best horse to run the break you don't have the personnel. Dumping it down to Yao and inside out is still going to be 80 pxt of the Rox offense.
