http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_y...06-10&prov=rivals&type=story_draft_team_needs Houston Rockets Team Needs Draft picks: No. 8, No. 32 Depth chart PG: Rafer Alston / Bob Sura / Rick Brunson* SG: Luther Head / David Wesley* / Richie Frahm* SF: Tracy McGrady / Keith Bogans* / Ryan Bowen PF: Juwon Howard / Stromile Swift / Chuck Hayes* / Maciej Lampe C: Yao Ming / Dikembe Mutumbo *Potential free agent Could use help at: Point Guard, Shooting Guard, Power Forward Bottom line: Houston’s 2005-06 season was lost when both Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady missed 60 games combined. The team played well when both were healthy, and they now have a chance to upgrade their roster through the draft. The obvious position of need for the Rockets is shooting guard, where both Sura and Wesley are approaching the end of their careers and Luther Head is best-suited coming off the bench as a combo guard. Draft outlook: Brandon Roy would be an ideal fit at shooting guard but might be gone. Other options include J.J. Redick, Ronnie Brewer, Randy Foye, or Rodney Carney. Of the shooting guards available, Roy and Brewer are both the type of hard-nosed player that Jeff Van Gundy values. Carney is the risky choice but has as much potential as anybody in the group. If Marcus Williams is around, the Rockets could well decide to draft him and move Rafer Alston back to his more natural spot as a backup point guard. In the second round, the Rockets have a very early pick from the New York Knicks and could have a chance at a number of different contributors. Steve Novak would fit in nicely and thrive on the open looks that Yao creates in the post. Among backup point guards, Bobby Brown, Jose Juan Barea, and Darius Washington could all make sense. If the Rockets go for a big man, Alexander Johnson, Saer Sene and Paul Davis would be worth looking at. The emphasis seems to be on players who can contribute right away and fit into their grind-it-out style of play.
I havent heard anything from Pittsnoggle, did he drop of the radar or what? Also, I havent seen this novac play, who would you compare him with as far as in the league talent?
FYI this is a Rivals.com piece: http://nbadraft.rivals.com/content.asp?cid=547557#HOU They have quite a few interesting write ups on their NBA Draft site: http://nbadraft.rivals.com/
here is steve novak's stat from this year. This guy only missed 1 free throw his entire year. I think we should draft this guy just for closing out games. We could win 5 more games easy with him hit free throws in the end.
Roy's got knee issues. If he falls to us, take a risk and draft him. However, don't trade up for this guy. Bummed knees at 22 years old aren't worth multiple picks. On the other hand, if Rudy Gay falls to us...
Couldnt be more right but i would love to trade up get Gay and then sign tim thomas and maybe trade for Darius miles with gay already in place bringing miles head and stro of the bench with a great core would be awesome!
Their mock draft has us getting Shelden Williams in the 1st round, he seems to be tough as nails and maybe could contribute immediately. We could then move J Howard or Stro for good SG.
I didn't know about Roy's knees. Just how bad are they? If this is going to be a permanent problem with him, I will be disappointed. Excuse me while I readjust my drafting list.
That would be a big mistake. We simply can't afford throwing draft picks away. There is no guarantee we make the playoffs next year and next years draft figures to be very good.
Shelden Williams would be a terrible choice. Putting a stiff PF next to Yao with no surefire offensive game. Our needs are for wing players, and that's what the draft is going to address. Stromile and Juwan won't net us anything spectacular in the trade market.
Amen....we need to draft a player who can do at least two things well and one of those must be the ability to consistently hit a wide open 12-15 ft shot. When Juwan is able to do this, we usually win. Shelden Williams doesn't fit.
I'm fine with Sheldon Williams' rebounding and defense as long as we solve the SG problem through free agency.
I go to school with Bobby Brown, he's a pretty awesome player. He's not a pure point, though. Still, the Rockets might like his athleticism and 3 point shooting.
