    #8 Houston

Adieu, mechanical bull. Houston has come a long way since its Urban Cowboy days. Clearly it’s also attracting singles, and survey-takers also gave the city a top-10 ranking for cocktails and stylish, attractive locals.

Washington DC is a great, great singles town... it draws talent nationally and most are reasonably smart and, uh, liberated. Should be in the top 5 easy.

I'd just like to point out that Austin is number three, and superior in every regard, except for the fact that the Rockets don't play there.

Not trying to spark up an argument or anything...there is no argument - we even have more hippies and gays!

not to mention, all of the young staffers looking to hook up with senators.

regarding the article, i'm not sure houston should be put at #5

I believe this is statistical encouragement for those of us who are single to really step our games up and ---- our way to #1 in time for the next ranking.

Unfortunately, we also typically rank in the top 5 of America's fattest cities, so we'll probably just let those jerk San Franciscans, what with their physical fitness & annoying self-respect, lap us yet again.

Pass the KFC Double Down. Baby.

My office building is in that pic they used for Houston. That just blew my mind.

    #28 Dallas/Fort Worth

Big D is a big dud to many visitors, who find the locals not so attractive (No. 18), intelligent (No. 27), or friendly (No. 23). But such ills can be cured, apparently, by a little retail therapy. The home turf of Neiman-Marcus and some top-notch malls helps Dallas rank 10th for luxury shopping.

They gave Houston #8 for most attractive, but how is this possible since we're near the top in most overweight (I'm assuming is a % per 1000 people or something)? We must have some real beauty queens hiding somewhere bringing up the class average.

I'm thinking of moving to Austin once I'm done with college and all that.

Mostly for the music scene though, but I suppose being the number 3 city for singles is nice.

I am not single, nor have I been in many, many years. However, I can't imagine a more single-friendly place than Austin. I guess I'll cede Miami because of the beaches. Austin adds brains to the mix, which counts for more in my book. New Orleans? Really? I guess if you're down with the smell of puke accented with sweat and piss. I'd pass on that, loners.

I think they factor in the gym to fast food restaurant ratio in making the fattest label. Not really a great indicator, but people get bored I guess.

As for Austin, it is a nice city, but I'll still take home over it.
