Orlando’s search for a point guard to help deflect the blow of losing All-Star Jameer Nelson has the Magic nearing an agreement with the Milwaukee Bucks to acquire Tyronn Lue for guard Keith Bogans, league executives familiar with the discussions said Thursday morning. Sources don’t expect any snag that would stop the deal from being completed Thursday. The Magic prefer a short-term, inexpensive solution to help replace Nelson, who tore the labrum in his right shoulder this week. If Nelson elects for surgery, he’ll miss the rest of the season. Nelson is expected to decide in the next week about whether to put off surgery and instead try to rehabilitate the shoulder over several weeks. Lue, 31, has averaged 4.7 points and 1.5 assists per game for Milwaukee. With the Magic playing without Nelson on Wednesday, veteran point guard Anthony Johnson had 25 points in a 125-96 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers. Bogans, a 6-foot-5 guard, has averaged 5.3 points and 3.1 rebounds a game for the Bucks. The New York Daily News first reported the two teams were discussing the trade. http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_y...YF?slug=ys-luemagic020509&prov=yhoo&type=lgns
Magic are okay with Pietrus and Courtney Lee in place of Bogans. Lue isnt a world beater but he's an outstanding 3 point shooter. And he'll get plenty looks with the Magic
Lets face it most of the offense is run thru Hedo who is a terrific ball handler and offensive initiator at 6'10. The PG's in their lineup are to spread the floor and bring the ball up the court. Sucks for Bogans tho, from a top team in the east to a lower one all because of an injury.
He may be considered garbage compared to starting PG's around the league, but Lue is a very steady hand to have as a backup point guard. Very good shooter as well. I'd trade Luther for him in a heart beat.* *That doesn't necessarily mean a whole lot, but whatever.
T-Lue is a decent player. Much better than some of the garbage you've been pimpin on these boards throughout the years.
They should have went after Henrich (who I do not regard as highly as you guys). Henrich can shoot and play D, then when Nelson comes back Henrich can handle time at the 2. Rather than a scotch tape type deal it would have actually made them better. I don't think they had the assets to make it happen though.
I actually like this deal. The Magic roster works really well because they have a monster inside and a boatload of perimeter scorers. Tyronne Lue is not a star but he's capable of shooting the wide open three WHILE being able to run plays, something that AB0 and Rafer Alston apparently lack. It looks like he also has a high bball IQ since according to his former coach Lue wants to a bball coach in the future. Imagine how good our offense would be if we had consistent perimeter scorers around Yao Ming instead of the injured and inconsistent triumverate of Tmac, Battier and Artest
We traded John Barry for him also. Barry played for the Rox for parts of two seasons and Lue played for the Hawks for 4 seasons, I would say that was a "bad" trade on our part.
