I think it should be investigated, but I don't think anything will come of it. I don't think any tampering occured, but it's worth finding out.
What does gilbert hope to get out of all this? Lebron to unsign with the heat? Stern to ban the heat from playoffs or something? The heat is a media juggernaut... no way stern does anything to them
He enforces league regulations. That's it. I get your point, it does nothing for him, but at the same time we have to continue to police the league and stand up for it's principles. Stern is a little girl with pig tails and will end up doing nothing, but at least someone is trying to keep it clean. Look, if we don't investigate suspicious behavior like this, then we should just remove the tampering rules all together.
Dan Gilbert seems like some kind of psychopath. How did he ever become successful? Nepotism or something?
this is getting outta hand lol and yes Cleveland needs to start thinking about getting over it and focus on rebuilding
Loss of draft picks??? Didn't the Heat trade away nearly every pick (or gave swap rights on picks) for the foreseeable future? Other than a big fine for the organization or Pat Riley individually, I just don't see what the league could ACTUALLY do to the Heat for this. EDIT: The Heat currently are slated to have the following future draft picks through 2015: 2011 - no first rounder; Wolves' second rounder 2012 - lower of their own or Cavs' first rounder; no second rounder 2013 - no first rounder; their own second rounder 2014 - their own first rounder; their own and Wolves' second rounders 2015 - no first rounder; their own second rounder
The irony of this entire BS article is that Cleveland actually traded LeBron to Miami. SO if you were so upset, why agree to the trade?
Loss of mid-level exceptions (assuming these exist under the new CBA), have whatever fine amounts count against whatever salary cap is set when the new CBA is agreed upon?
A few reasons: 2012 swap rights on first round picks 2013 first round pick 2015 first round pick $14.5M trade exception I don't think the fact that Gilbert and the Cavs were wise enough to "take what they could get" via sign-and-trade amounts to a waiver and release of the Miami Heat from any and all liability relating to tampering and other violations of league rules. Your editing beat me to it. It is very likely that the MLE will no longer exist (at least as we know it) in the new CBA. Also, I think the Heat will be so far over the salary cap after next season that it won't make a difference to them.
maybe they will take away a draft pick or something... obviously no team would get banned from the playoffs or be forced to have a player unsign with them, but obviously gilbert is still pissed and he is doing everything he can to ruin whats left of lebrons reputation. not saying it is the right thing to do, but i can definitely understand his frustration...
Otherwise they would have got nothing in exchange. So all you people who think Cleveland is being a bunch of sour fans, are you actually telling me nothing smells funny about all this? Are you actually saying that this shouldn't be investigated? You can't possibly tell me it was merely by chance that a week into free agency the super friends said to each other, "Hey, let's all move into Wade's house and have a sleep over every night!" If the NBA has rules it should do its due diligence to at least try and enforce them. Even if nothing comes of this investigation, the fact that one is present in my book is a good sign. Yes, they have no picks to lose, yes, in the end the super friends stay together, but all in all it will tarnish their names that much more so. I would rather have an active commissioner who goes out of his way to investigate these moral deviations than have a commissioner like Bud Selig who winds up with a scandal on his hands.
I'd smile if they took away the next 5 yrs of Miami firsts. (including the ones traded to Cleveland)... .
thats what im thinking, he needs to let this thing die already. I wonder what will happen though if they do find the heat guilty lol.
For some reason I dont think this takes the focus off of rebuilding or anything to do with the actual Cavs team. If Gilbert thinks that they really broke the rules, he has the right to try and find out. If they didnt, then who cares, he will get over it after that point. LeBron screwed the cavs, why cant Gilbert try to screw the heat?
