I am looking for some information on XM radio. What are the benifits of having it? Compared to CD's and regular radio broadcast. Some of the ones i've came up with are: -Commercial free -Same stations everywhere you go -Lists the name and artist What are some other ones? It can be anything, from easy of use to technical stuff. Thanks
If you are into talk radio you have a lot to choose from. If you drive a lot it would be great. I don't think I'm in my car enough to justify the cost.
Agreed. I can't see paying the monthly fee. I have an in dash MP3 CD player in my car, that's tons of entertainment.
Dude, Screw XM - seriously. Go with Sirius - you get all the NFL games, all the college games, more channels, and same equipment/price. I had XM, and compared to Sirius it sucked ballz.
If it's music you want...then maybe. I got to listen to XM in my brother's car today while going to Kim Son for dim sum and, as many channels as they have, I only flipped through 4 during the whole road trip (80s, 90s and 2 dance stations).
u really get all the college games? i knew it was all nfl just checking the college ones, cuz that would make it worth it
I never had XM . . but does it have as many XM Commercials and Sirius has Sirius Commercials it is worse than commercial radio because it is like the same d*mn commercial over and over Rocket River
I never thought I'd pay monthly for XM for the same reason rockHEAD said - I had MP3's. But then my mp3 collection never changed. I got bored with it. A free subscription of XM came with my car, so I tried it for 3 months. I was hooked. It's great for people that like to listen to all sorts of things. If you're just sports, or just hip hop, etc. then it's probably not worth it. I may also get a portable Sirius tuner later on, but I'm not giving my XM up. It's great - especially on long trips.
Just a question... Do either one of them have a system you can easily change from car to car? The reason I ask is with my job I travel alot and rent cars all the time, and it would be cool if I could bring it with me when I travel, especially with long drives. If so, what do I need? Sorry if this question is dumb, but I really haven't looked into them much.
I don't know exactly what Sirius has when it comes to college football, but I know XM has the Big East, ACC, Big Ten, and Pac 10 conferences--I think they are exclusive. Basically I would say that if you want satellite radio for sports, go with Sirius, but if you want it for more music and talk/news then go with XM.
Actually, I'd go with Sirius for everything unless you're an ACC or NASCAR fan. Unsliced Talk Radio - XM picks & chooses some shows off of Air America for example. You get the whole station w/ Sirius. Just as many (if not more - especially Rock) music stations. EVERY NFL game. Yes. NHL exclusive. MLB (soon) exclusive Big 12 - UT exclusive. Sirius blows XM away - sorry, I've owned both. Also, there is a portable car kit that allows you to take the receiver from car to car or attach it to your home stereo or boombox.
I have Sirius and because of the NFL and NCAA packages I won't give it up. To correct something above though, they don't play every college game but they do play a bunch. You can log into their site and see who they have. Rocketball-- Sirius offers the following http://www.sirius.com/servlet/Conte...s/CachedPage&c=ProductAsset&cid=1093551683404 (there may be other models also). This product transmits to a FM frequency and you can turn to that frequency in whatever car you are in and get the sirius broadcast. On what Rocket River said: Sirius music channels do play sirius commercials. Most of them ar eabotu 15 seconds and they never play more than one in a row. They also very rarely come on. They have station ID breaks occasionally but I am pretty sure that is an FCC thing, and all they do is ID the station you are listening to. The national channels have commercials because they are feeds from a program. I listen to ESPN radio and ESPN news a lot and I really don't notice commercial repetition. In fact a lot of times on ESPN news they play Jazz music instead of commercials. The differnce, I find, from regular radio is in the vast choices you have. On regular radio ther are usually only 2-3 stations that play what I am in the mood for. When one is at commercial the others are most likely at commercial or getting close to a break too. With Sirius when I get a commercial I have about 10-15 other choices that will beplayign something I want to hear. The 2 comedy channels are great for tis purpose. They were playing Chappelle and Chris Tucker this morning.
This is too general a statement. For what you want, it may blow XM away. I couldn't care less about college sports or the NHL. I doubt I'll ever listen to sports games on the radio, so paying $3/month more for something I don't care about is pointless. On long drives I like music variety and stuff like on-air theater. I've got 2 friends that have both and they say that XM has more variety in the music they play whereas Sirius is more repetitive. In any case, hopefully within the next couple of months I'll be able to compare them both personally.
