http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/02/20/the-drop-week-of-feb-21st-2011-new-releases/ Wow...this is a crazy year. Also, for Xenogears fans, I never updated THIS thread to include the info that someone on Youtube has uploaded the tracks from the Xenogears Myth Soundtrack (taken from the sneak peak I talked about in that thread I think): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u8C73YTzSSM (Light From The Netherworld, see related videos from this user for the rest) Soundtrack is actually being released this week in Japan I believe.
"A newly created combo system." Lol. By definition, nothing in a 12-year-old game is "new." Still though... they don't make RPGs like they used to. Vesperia is the only JRPG I can think of lately that approximates the quality of the old guard (not counting Valkyria Chronicles, which is a whole different animal). Already have this game on disc, but might consider buying it just to be able to play it on my PSP.
If you have the opportunity to get this, and you haven't played this game, and you like RPGs, you really have to do it.
I always preferred Chrono Trigger. Time travel and zombies are two of the greatest conventions available and I'm shocked at the underutilization of both. Dead Island looks good based on no gameplay. I'm unique in that I hate seeing little tiny girls dying horribly. I look forward to the first zombie game to have you play as a zombie. Let's do what George Romero hasn't been able to do for 25 years and storytell.
You can't really compare Xenogears with the FF series. It doesn't have nearly the conventional wide appeal that comes with mainstream RPGs. Nor does it even play out like an RPG. It's more of a picture book/movie with some gameplay elements involved. You either love the story and will scroll through hours of text, or it puts you to sleep and you never bother with it again. Replayed it on PSP a few years ago. Ah, the goodness of CFW.
Do they speed up the load times with PSN releases? Xenogears was an otherwise amazing game and experience. Touched on a lot of cool psychological and mythological concepts.
I want to say there is some slight improvement (it doesn't have to load from disc after all), but probably not as fast as we'd like. Might vary from game to game too.
Undoubtedly grandest story ever. Can't say best because there are some that are smaller scale but just as good (suikoden 2, ff tactics).
Actually, if you haven't tried playing through all three Xenosaga games, you should. Certainly none equal Xenogears alone (nor do they even come close), but at the end of the day the continuous Xenosaga story across 3 games is really, really epic.
I remember saying the exact same thing...until I played Xenogears. FF VII's story couldn't touch Xenogears'.
Yeah. Best scene, IMO: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r4HemnNKu94&feature=player_detailpage#t=105s . I remember getting nerd chills during it. Id was the baddest dude that was ever bad in any game ever.
I agree with you here. The story in Xenosaga, by the 3rd one, was pretty underrated. The problem with those games is that they were boring as hell. Combat and exploration felt more stilted and lifeless than Xenogears by a wide margin. The story was interesting but with it being stretched out over so many games I never felt a real sense of urgency. Also it was annoying how random things from Xenogears would show up in a blatant reference to the better game, but never actually pose a real connection to it. Hearing them throw out terms like Zohar when they could've easily used a different word (since they were never the same things usually) just screamed "HEY!!! Remember Xenogears?!?!"
