lately when i try to play a movie the xbox 360 shows 3 red rings and ejhects the disc. i read online this is a sign of overheating and could easily be fixed. has anyone attempted to do this? maybe i should just go try to trade it in for the elite.
Good things i have some hookups. i traded my 360 a few days ago along with the game that was bundled with it when i bought it. i knew the manager at the place so i thought i would get 400 credit for it but he gave me 400 for my premium and 40 for the game. now when the elite comes out on sunday it'll cost me just an extra 40 dollars and whatever tax!
Try elevating the power adapter. Get a box face up and place the adapter at an angle so it's resting on two sides. I've been doing this ever since I got mine and have had no problems.
I have seen those 3 red rings on 3 of my previous 360's. I am currently on my 4th 360. This better be the last one it happens to. I am assuming the only ring not lit up red is in the upper right hand corner correct? Call microsoft and they will charge you $140 to fix it.
My 360 recently got the 3 red lights and I tried the "towel trick" and it worked fine for about 4 days then it hasn't worked ever since. But honestly it isn't worth trying to fix, unless you have a warranty. Screw the elite just get a regular core. Save some money.
not anymore. microsoft extended warranties for all xbox360s and cover the 3 red rings problem. If you paid to get yours fixed, you should get a refund in the mail. I just got mine a couple of days ago.
If it is working enough to demo at EB, I say trade that sucker in for an Elite. I had the 3 rings of death and ended up having to send it back to MS for a refurbished unit. The refurb has worked perfectly so I can't complaing about that too much. You should contact MS and get another 360 sent to you.
I have no sympathy for MS and their shoddy 360 hardware. So if the warranty is out, it's time for the ol' switcheroo.
They only extended the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. So if you have owned your 360 longer than a year you have to pay the $140. My friend got the 3 rings last week and had to pay the $140 to get it fixed.
this happened to me a few weeks ago. it was still under warranty so microsoft sent me a pre-paid box to send it back in. they don't even try to fix it, they just send you another one that they've already fixed. makes the process faster as it only took about 4 days from the time i sent mine to get another one back. they also gave me a one-month xbox live card. ooooh. i don't like that these things are breaking but atleast microsoft has gotten a whole lot better about the process of fixing it. you can also add a 2 year warranty to the 360 from microsoft for 50 bucks.
i hope they drop the price some time this summer (they should to capitalize on the excessive ps3 price). i'd like to get one.
It appears as though they're still losing quite a bit of money on every system sold (not to mention these extended warranties and replacement systems), so I doubt they'll do a price cut anytime soon. I thought they might do one this year for sure, but after reading about that, I'm not so sure anymore. Seems like maybe something went wrong with their costs curve. Of course, a price cut becomes considerably more likely if the PS3 gets a price cut.
Even if the PS3 drops in price, MS doesn't have much to worry about. There isn't anything worth getting a PS3 for, probably until early next year. So if the PS3 drops in price, MS shouldn't drop the price on anything. Unless it drops it on the Core systems, but I'm not sure if they are even making those anymore.
At least be fair. There is a lot of good Software on the PS3. Anyway, I think you are best off sending it off to Microsoft. Not sure what EB can do if they find out you trick them
Depending on the timing and the magnitude of a PS3 price cut (as well as other factors), I could certainly see MS deciding to hold off on a price cut of their own; there is a lot of good stuff that has been released or will be released shortly for the PS3, but I agree that a lot of the "big hitters" probably won't be released until the end of the year (around Fall I suppose). Still, if a price cut improves sales for the PS3 by quite a bit, I'm sure MS would feel a little nervous (particularly if sales are great in Japan and Europe, where the 360 struggles, helping to close the gap by quite a bit between the 2). 360 sales, while not as bad as PS3 sales these last few months, haven't been all that great, so it isn't like they wouldn't benefit from a price cut. It would certainly help win over some of the undecided gamers out there. FWIW, they still do make the Core, although sales for it are only a very small percentage of 360 sales. They might decide to bundle Halo 3 with the Core this holiday season (possibly with a price cut, although I don't know if that is necessary).
As good as the Xbox 360 is playing wise, it is bleeding cash for Microsoft. The best financial decision they can make is to shut down the whole division and focus on their strengths.
