I bought a GameCube a while back just to play MarioKart, but I haven't touched the system in months. XBox and PS2 have a lot more games, so I'm considering selling my current system on ebay and picking up one of these. Which one should I get and why?

Dude... I bought the Gamecube the day MarioKart was released, just to play the game.

I haven't touched it since September 2003. What a waste!

But I do have a PS2 that I started playing for the first time in 7 months since I bought NCAA 2005 yesterday.

Let's see how long I play this game until the PS2 collects dust again.

We play the crap off our GameCube. We bought it for the same reason y'all did, but we've continued to play MarioKart, NBA Live, Tiger Woods and MLB 2004 since we did. Since we only play EA Sports games, we're fine with our's.

I have an xbox, though my roommate used to have a PS2 so last year we had both. Xbox has certain pros and cons. I'm gonna be real honest with you here.

    Pros:
--better graphics than the PS2 or Gamecube
--built in hard-drive, so you don't have to mess with memory cards, and you can keep as many saved games as you want
--a couple of bells and whistles like you can burn music CDs you have onto the hard-drive.
--Xbox live is the best on line gaming, though i don't play it
--i guess i'd say i like the controller better too
--some good xbox exclusives coming out/already out, these are better than (will be better than) almost all PS2 games: Ninja Gaiden, Sudeki (comes out soon), of course Halo 2, Fable sometime next year, and Jade Empire.

    Cons:
--PS2 has WAAAY more games, more 3rd party developers, and you can get good games for cheaper for PS2. i don't know if that's a testament for PS2 games not selling as well or what... but in any case PS2 has a huge library of games.
--PS2 has exclusives too, and much more role playing games. Final Fantasy is only on PS2, so is Tekken (one of my favorite games), and they have other cool franchises like Onimusha and Devil May Cry. Also I believe that the next Grand Theft Auto will be PS2 exclusive, that kinda stinks for me.
--More people have PS2, so i guess the community is better.
--Xbox may come out with the Xbox2 as early as next year, in which case Xbox may be phased out sooner. Sony right now has no plans for PS3 release.

Right now I wouldn't say the pros outweigh the cons or anything. But I would suggest Xbox simply because it has more capabilities.

Btw... I started the EXACT thread like 8 months ago.

I have both, my ps2 is in the closet while I still play the box.

The main standby argument for PS2 from 2 years ago ("better selection of games") doesn't hold water anymore -- Xbox's library is deep enough now that you'll never run out of games to play. In addition, PS2's lifecycle seems to be at or near the end of the line; its new titles have slowed and don't generate the same buzz.

Combine that with Xbox's technical superiority for the same money, and the choice is easy, IMO.

I'd get Xbox just for Live that thing kicks ass!

I buy all my sports games for the Xbox instead of the PS2 now because I'm so used to the button layout (its so similar to Dreamcast) I have to mention that I basically only play sports games and recently I played Chronicles of Riddick (which is badass by the way)

still though, I don't think PS3 will be release until 2006, meanwhile, I think Xbox2 will be release sometime next year.

Well this is all about NCAA 2005 really. I know they offer a GameCube version, so the easy thing would be to just buy it for that platform. What tempts me about the Xbox/PS2 is the ability to play online. I think that would be a cool feature, but I honestly don't know how often I would use it. How much do those services cost a month?

I think XBL is like 50 a year, but they are usually running all kinds of special deals with it (free games, etc).

For sports I think the box is a no brainer -- no memory cards, better load times than PS2, better graphics, etc.

If NASA decided to use PS2's over XBOX's, so should you!

It is strange, but I always thought the XBOX, in shear power, was better than the PS2, but I found out that the PS2 had more polygonal power than the XBOX. (I think the XBOX is basically a Celeron 2 and a Geforce 2/3.) Too bad Sony screwed up with the RAM and how difficult it was to program games. Especially since XBOX does provide some of the graphic tricks that PS2 doesn't.

But back to the here-and-now. I always thought that XBOX was nice, but didn't really have any games that were exclusively for it, yet they are doing pretty good about now with KOTOR, Ninja Gaiden, Jade Empire, Fable, Halo 2, etc. Right now, there are a lot of great games on XBOX that the PS2 can't rival with at the moment. However, FFXII, Xenosaga, MGS: Snake Eater, GT4, and others are still on their way.

I kind of worried about the XBOX. I think they have smaller hard drives now, possibly a money issue, and XBOX 2/next/Xenon may not even come with one. I have heard so many release times for PS3, from late next year to 2007. They have been some announcements that may show they are ahead of schedule, but that may be just to screw up the XBOX 2 into rushing out or screwing up some how. I've kind of gone off-topic, so I'll stop. I could go on for a long time.:)

Basically, just pick the system that has the exclusives you like. Most of the sports games are on both as well as other popular games.

Don't go online, so I can't help you out. I think there are WAY more PS2 online users than XBOX users, but that doesn't really help any.

I have all three systems and have only played the Xbox for a long time. I like the Xbox even more now that I have added a chip and new hard drive.

PS2 over X box easy. Some of their best titles are just about to come out GT 4, GTA SA, Ace Combat 5, FF 12, Silent Hill 4. They sell so many more games than anyone else so they can quickly reduce the price so you can get great games cheap ($10-20). PS 2 has better controllers as well...

    Plus chicks love the PS2.

    ;)

I sure forgot about a couple of those games, and I don't know how. Silent Hill 4 looks FREAKY. Then again, all them are.

The controller thing reminds me of when they asked Kane of the WWE if he used the XBOX controller and even he said it was too big. For those who don't know, Kane is really big...really big. I wonder what Shaq or Yao would think of the controller.

Played both, prefer the X Box. I buy, play and trade games at EB games all the time. In fact I just dumped 5 old a$$ games and got Spiderman 2 in trade and they gave me a penny! That game absolutely ROCKS.

    1. Why not just get another system to add to your GC? You won't get as much for the GC (or any used system really), and you'll have a chance to widen your options. You'd be able to have two systems to enjoy exclusives on. It sounds like you don't really play enough for money to be a concern (IE, to many games to buy).

    2. XBOX's library was godawful early on - it relied mostly on hype and hardware - but has improved much more as of late. It's still all about exclusives, though, depending on your taste. And despite it's slightly older age, the PS2 still has quality titles.

But if you're looking to just play sports games and want online, I'd go with XBOX.

    3. Or you could just save your money and build a badass PC to play stuff like Doom 3 and Half Life 2 on. :D

I'm definitely a PS2 guy, cause I like the variety more.

I guess it depends pretty heavily on what kind of controls you like, cause I really can't stand non-Playstation controls. (especially Game-cube... they're awful)

I thought about getting an X-Box a while back, since my uncle writes X-Box games, but the library doesn't seem to be as extensive, and it's wasn't worth it for me.
