I know there was a thread started on this a few weeks back, but I can't find it. Today was the launch of the service and all I can say is "WOW!!" I can't believe how much they have on there. They already have 48 movies, from past to present, in standard and HD. Also, they have A TON of TV shows. And, I'm not talking about a few shows here and there. They have whole seasons of shows with every episode available. Again, both in standard and HD. The way to navigate through all of it is painless and easy as you can navigate by genre, studio or network, etc. Anyway, I thought this should get a little pub cause it's really a great new feature for current and soon to be 360 owners as well as something that could help those debating on which next-gen system to get.
I think this was the thread you were looking for: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=119913 I agree that this should be getting more pub. I was a little disappointed that the thread I made didn't get any replies (and only like 30 views) since this seemed like a great feature when it was announced. Apparently, it has turned to be a nice service in practice as well. I really like the idea of this type of service, and I'm glad that at least one of the big 3 is doing something about it instead of just doing a lot of talking. I've read some minor complaints about it, but nothing too major IMO (some of it will go away over time anyway, such as the lack of a larger HDD for the 360).
Oh yea, RC, that was you that started that thread. I didn't actually try to download anything, was just looking around just to see what was there. Man, it took me a while to see everything though. I did notice Live was slower than usual which I assumed was because probably a million people were on downloading huge files. I thought I read somewhere they were going to be putting all those downloads on seperate servers so it wouldn't bog anything down. I also noticed that when I clicked on a few titles to look at them closer, it gave me an error message about Live couln't display that at that time and to try again later. Must be a few little bugs that they have to work through. Forgot to mention this in my previous post, but I think the preview feature to watch a 30 second clip of each TV or movie is a great feature as well. I know it's not much but I just think it adds to the convenience of it. I'm still amazed at the variety of movies from differnent eras they have on there. I always assumed they would have just a few semi-recent DVD released titles on there, but man they have stuff from the 70's and 80's. How about 9 1/2 Weeks in HD?
are these movie and show downloads free? or do you have to use those stupid microsoft points to download them?
You have to pay using points. I forgot how much they cost though. I want to say around $3-$6 depending on what you get. TV shows you keep forever (IIRC), and movies you can watch as many times as you want for 24 hours (starting once you play it for the first time I believe). Maybe mogrod or jtotheb can add more info, and correct me if I made any mistakes.
