So my XBOX 360 has died for the 3rd time and I am tired of putting up with the hassle. I've pretty much been an XBOX fanboy since the first day the original one came out so it's a sad day for me. Anyway I've decided to get a PS3 bundle from Sam's and was wondering if current PS3 owners could help me decide on which bundle to get. PS3 80GB Bundle w/ Killzone 2: Includes PS3 80GB console, PS3 Blu-ray remote, extra Dual Shock 3 controller and Killzone 2 game. $498.86 PS3 80GB Bundle w/ Resistance 2: Bundle includes PS3 80GB console, extra controller, PS3 Blu-ray remote and Resistance 2 game. $496.86 PS3 80GB Bundle w/ Little Big Planet: Bundle includes PS3 80GB console, PS3 Blu-ray remote and Little Big Planet game. $463.86 PS3 80GB Bundle w/ Metal Gear Solid 4: Bundle includes PS3 80GB, Metal Gear Solid 4, Blu-ray remote & an extra wireless controller. $498.84 Sony PlayStation 3 80GB Console for $397.00 and buy the accessories game later
I'd go with the Killzone 2 package, but if you like Resistance 2 better, you should get that. Honestly, the best way to go these days is for a bundle, that's how I got my PS3. The other 2 packages aren't really that good IMO, and the single PS3 by itself is going to end up costing you more if you buy some of the accessories that comes with the bundles. Sucks about your Xbox.. mine has acted up twice this year, but I'm grateful to have my warranty.
I haven't really looked at the details for those bundles, but I suggest maybe waiting a week. PS3 is due for a price cut. One "mole" seems to be implying something imminent from Sony, although it wasn't stated what (could also be PSP related). But all his past hints have related to new SKUs and/or price cuts. If you can wait until E3 (around the beginning of June), even better.
With a remote you don't have to bring up the menu just to change a lot of the options, and my parents don't know how to use the PS3 controller to watch blu-ray but anyone knows how to use a remote.
You must be single. Most women don't like dealing with video game controllers to watch a movie. The bluray function is a selling point for me to my wife so the least I could do is make it female friendly when watching movies.
Although my girlfriend doesn't like the controller, she learned to use it and has no problem doing so when watching her films. I thought it was a well known fact around here that moes is not single, in fact his significant other is a prominent poster on this board.
Female friendly? Come on dude. If she can learn how to work a remote, she can press select on the PS3 controller and scroll through the options. My girl can work a regular TV remote, but she doesn't have a clue on how to operate the Logitech Harmony. Men rule technology. 30 bucks for female ignorance? STEP. YOUR. GAME. UP.
OK, looked at the bundles a little closer. Just glancing at some prices at Amazon, but it doesn't seem like the bundles really save you any money (unless I added wrong). FYI, there is a 3rd-party remote that is $5 cheaper ($15 vs $20), although I don't think it is Bluetooth. If it were me, I'd probably buy them separate. Especially if you can find a good deal somewhere, on the games and/or the console. If you want game recommendations, they're all pretty good IMO (although I haven't played KZ2 yet). If you're into online shooters, I'd probably use a coin flip between R2 and KZ2. If you're into MGS/story games, MGS4 is great. And LBP is just plain fun, especially when playing with others (but no guns, killing, etc.).
I like having the remote myself. It's certainly less confusing for the girl, but it's also just plain easier to navigate for anyone. For example, you can press the DVD menu button instead of having to hit triangle and then find the menu function on the TV's display. It's not necessary... it's just nice. As for the original question... I'd get the Killzone 2 package. MGS4 hasn't floated my boar thus far. I can't speak to LBP though, because somehow I haven't bought it yet. I can tell you that Uncharted: Drake's Fortune and Valkyria Chronicles are absolute must-have exclusives in my book, though. Pick up Valkyria Chronicles quick, too... it's out of production and getting harder to find, from what I hear.
15-20 bucks to not hear a woman b**** is an investment well worth it especially when she wants a wii rather then a ps3.
To me it's even nicer than a standard infrared remote though, simply because it's bluetooth, meaning there doesn't even need to be a clear path to the TV. You can even point it in the wrong direction from another room and that sucker'll still work.
