Well, my machine has failed 3 times, and now my kids machine has caught up and failed for the 3rd time. Previous thread about the RROD Either way, they fix it for free, but it is annoying to be without it for a week or so, gonna whip out the old SNES and go old school for a week or so.... Hey, maybe I can get DCProwler to sell it for me? DD
Mine has failed once and has been problem free for like 6 months but im still trading it in to gamestop today for the new 360 slim
Buy a new one at Target for $130. You get a free $50 gift card, so you upgrade your crappy Xbox, lose all the headaches of RROD, and get an extra controller for essentially $80.
Those looked good at E3, but with MS record of failure, I am dubious about it and Natal/Kinnect looked like crap. DD
Why don't you just use the penny fix? According to DCProwler if done properly it should last forever. On a serious note, I've had mine for 4 years with no RROD, but did have a disc read error, and the eject button both break at different times that I sent in for repair.
That is not a bad deal thanks for posting it, but my kids can go without it for a week or so.....and it is FREE for repair, and at the end of the day, I am a tightwad. DD
You can also then take that new one from target that you basically paid $80 for and go to gamestop and get a $100 trade in credit for the next XBOX.
DD, I would do this. get the new xbox with the better design for heating and styling. I mean don't you have a 100inch plasma with the Martin Logan Speakers with that McIntosh receiver?
Not to get off topic, but my gf has a 360 that she's giving to me. It apparently works fine, but if it ever develops the RROD, can I send it in even though I'm not the original owner and don't have any of the original receipts or documentation?
Go to http://support.xbox.com/support/en/us/nxe/registerdevice.aspx?step=register and register the serial number on the back of the Xbox. It will let you know your warranty status.
Actually, it almost always says expired, UNTIL you enter the 3RROD problem then it says..."Well, ok, we will fix that for free" LOL, trust me, I know this process very well. DD
well the new one has built in wifi and i'm pretty sure it's much better than the old design. so the kids can enjoy it on the 60 inch plasma
Made me want to look into why, so I looked at the Wikipedia article on it and read this: [rquoter]An E74 error is indicated when the lower-right quadrant of the ring indicator flashes red and displays an error message in multiple languages: "E74 System Error. Contact Xbox Customer Support". The error is caused when there's a video problem, because the Xbox 360's hardware scaler chip is damaged.[75] As of April 14, 2009, the E74 error is now covered by the three-year extended warranty, and customers who previously paid Microsoft for out-of-warranty service to correct the E74 error will receive a refund.[/rquoter] I want to know where the heck my refund is. The E74 error is why I sent mine in before. Edit: Looks like I'm well beyond my time to complain about not receiving my supposedly automatic refund. I had no idea.
