What is more valuable today? If you had to buy one today, which one would it be? Which one will be better for the future? Discuss.
I own an Xbox, but there's no question which one is more "valuable", if you're taking game preferences out of the equation. PS3 costs more so that should be your first hint. Besides that, you have a built in blu-ray player, and a free online service. Both increase the "value" of the machine. Both systems have been out for a while, so what you see is pretty much what you get (minus the Sony and Microsoft's future gimmicks like Natal or PS3s wii copying thing) Pick whichever one's exclusives you like the most. If you're a generic gamer and most of the games you play are on both (FPS/Sports) then just get a PS3. The extras make it worth it. Personally, there are a few series on 360 that I have to play (Mass Effect, etc) so it's the system for me. But if all things were equal I'd rather have a PS3.
So it seems like you've already made your decision and this thread was pointless... ...as they always are, once a month, every month, since the dawn of time when the first fanboy dragged himself up out of the primordial ooze to say that PS3 suxxors and 360 is for n00bs
Just trying to even out the masses. I like Demon Souls, etc for PS3... I like Gears/Halo/Mass Effect for 360...
I have both systems. It depends on what type of gamer you are, but for me, the CLEAR winner is the 360, I haven't even turned my PS3 on to play a game in over a year. Exclusive games for each are debatable, so whatever you like will win out there. Personally, I could not do without the Left 4 Dead and Gears of War franchise's. If you want online gaming (which I do a lot), that is the specialty of the 360, it destroys the PS3 in that category. The online playing community for the 360 is significantly larger and most people have mics which improves the online experience. Another advantage I feel the 360 has is the controller which is big and easy to use and a lot more comfortable for me personally. I also enjoy the achievement system for the 360, it's a good way to stay competitive with friends. I know the PS3 has "trophies" now, but it's not the same thing. However, if you are a casual gamer, not interested in online gaming, like the PS3 exclusives, and want a blue-ray player, then you could go with the PS3
I have them both, and there's no way I'd be persuaded to part with either one. That said, between the PS3, 360, PC, and Wii, the PS3 probably takes up 70% of my gaming time. I like the exclusives the most, I like the controllers best, and I love not having to pay a subscription fee when I want to play online. I don't play many games online, but when I've wanted to play Bad Company 2 or Street Fighter online, I've never had problems of any kind (and I've logged like 150 hours on BC2).
I also have both, but I bought the PS3 just for movies. I do all of my gaming on my 360, I have never been a Playstation guy. Atari, NES, Super NES/Genesis, 64, Dreamcast, Xbox, 360.
You missed out on Genesis? The gaming gods weep for you, man. And if you missed out on PS1, you missed out on some of the best RPGs ever made... not to mention the biggest library of games all time with the PS2.
I generally despise online gaming (I play games to get the hell away from people, usually), like Blu-Ray, and prefer to have a console that doesn't have an insanely high failure rate. PS3 is my pick, and it's not close. That being said, I own both consoles.
I'm sure I've said this before, but I thoroughly encourage Demon's Souls fans to consider giving any of the King's field games a try. Made by the same people, and very nearly as difficult... just not as advanced, especially combat-system-wise. And they actually have even more secrets in them than Demon's Souls, if you can believe that. I like King's Field II best, but they are all great.
Personally I think the Xbox360 is the winner out of the two.. The interface is much easier to use, Netflix interface on X360 (Best out there), Easier to hack to play backup games, And the biggest one of them all is that the online play is so much better on the 360... Really the only advantage of the PS3 are: 1. Graphics are better 2. Blue-Ray ( I bought the Ps3 for this sole reason and am really mad because I don't rent Blue-Ray movies and will not buy it, I mostly stream through Netflix or Rent through On-Demand) 3. It's like a computer so you can use any Bluetooth keyboard, mouse, headset on it. I own all 3 systems and have used the Xbox360 significantly more than the other two combined.. I can't say this enough.. I"m a Netflix freak and the interface and speed on the Xbox360 is the best.. The only thing missing the is controller on the Wii which is cool but the Wii Netflix interface is a distant 2nd. So what do you do most? Game (Online or Not?), Watch Blue-Ray Movies, Watch Netflix..
That's the one thing I don't get, really. I HATE the 360's interface. To me it's a pain to use, and as un-intuitive as can be. I liked it much better before they changed it (back when they had the "blades," as they called them). The PS3's XMB is infinitely more organized and easier to use, IMO. The decision of which to buy really does depend solely on what features you'd use and what games you want to play. I don't use Netflix, I just bit torrent everything. I'm not interested in hacking my system and risking getting banned and voiding my warranty, and I don't play a lot of games online. The 360 does have advantages, just most of them don't appeal to me personally. So you just need to figure out what matters to you and what doesn't.
