has anyone on this board bought this? is it worth the 200 dollars, or should i just splurge on a separate HD DVD player, or possibly even a bluray player? any reviews on the sound capabilities will help too. thanks
i think tinman just posted a thread about it like a month ago...i dont have search privileges, but perhaps someone could go dig that up
Look for MB's thread also; he's having issues with the output in 1080p. (Not as big an issue depending on the TV you have, I suppose).
Here's tinman's thread: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=120079 Without getting into specifics (tinman and other others can provide much better info than I can), the drive seems like a very good option for 360 owners, and well worth the price (assuming you want to watch movies in HD anyway).
i bought one from circuit city and was pretty impressed by it. the detail and resolution was amazing, i could see every speck and hair on king kong. i returned however, since the selection for hd-dvd movies are still very thin and most rental stores don't offer it yet. however, you can still pick one up at cc with the $40 dollar off coupon. $159.99 for an hd-dvd player. can't beat that.
i have it. its the best hd dvd player on the market. don't get the stand alone. http://gear.ign.com/articles/746/746074p1.html the cool thing is that you can rent hd dvd on netflix, so i rented MI3, it was sweet! dont let people say crap about component video, the picture was spectacular and i've brought it over to other friend's tv's and they think its the best HD they've seen.
thanks for the help. i searched 'xbox hd dvd' but nothing came up. i'll be seriously considering it now
what kind of tv do u have? the xbox dvd player (regular dvd) is good on the hd dvd drive, its super fast. and it seems to clear up artifacts. if u have a vga input, u can upconvert your dvds through the xbox.
i just recently bought the 42" olevia HDTV from MicroCenter for black friday. it has VGA input, but it's 1080i, not 1080p.
and when i meant i searched, i meant searched on the board to see if it had been brought up before, but yeah. thanks again for your help
that's fine, you'll be able to upscale to whatever max res that is... i think its 1360 x 760 through vga. its a great buy. if u have netflix, u can get get hddvd or bluray.
In my country, they would go crazy for the HD DVD! Points to the VGA cable at the end of the table Not so much
I got it, and I can tell you that the HD-DVD of Batman Returns is worth getting it by itself. Incredible. You can definitely tell a difference in resolution between HD DVD and DVD. Not to mention that I feel more comfortable playing movies on that drive rather than the actual game drive. Won't have to worry about wearing out the game drive as much.
All the reviews I've read have been overwhelmingly positive. It won't do Dolby TrueHD unfortunately since there's no HDMI input, but the audio quality is still pretty close to the Toshiba player apparently. And for 200 bucks, it's hard to beat that price. I don't think the selection is that bad so far. There's a pretty decent number of recent blockbuster titles coupled with notable classic films, which is more than I can say for Blu-ray. And things should improve in 2007 with WB (hopefully)announcing big titles like The Matrix and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Paramount waking up from their slumber, and New Line and Dreamworks getting involved.
$40 off $199 or more http://www.fatwallet.com/redirect/b...p://d75productions.com/cccoupdecfrontback.zip there is a small clause that says no reproductions of the coupon are allowed, but when i went to the CC near bay brook mall, they didnt read any of the fine print and simply typed the coupon in. i would print this out in color though, just in case.
WOW sweet i am so getting one. i seen harry potter and batman on hbo hd and they look amazing. netflix has hd-dvd to rent so i am getting this right now. so the dvds will be 1080i/p but the only way to get 1080p is through vga? my dlp tv does have a vga input so thats good. sucks i guess need to get the vga cable. need to do more research on the quality of vga though since i was reading in the other thread about the drawbacks i am lazy so is the vga issue an isolated incident or have they been occuring on most/all 360s?
