If Morey doesn't trade Mcgrady by the deadline, he should be looking to draft Xavier Henry from Kansas if he declares to be in the NBA draft. An 18 year old freshman who is 6'6 220 pound and looks NBA ready like Tyreke Evans was said to look last year. He can shoot off the dribble, has good range, can ATTACK and FINISH at the basketball and has tremendous upside to his game. He can improve drastically once he comes to NBA. What do you guys think? I think this doesn't belong in the GARM. We have a forum for draft prospects, yes? Also the playoffs haven't even started bro.
but he turned it IN TO a garm type thread by involving Morey and how the ROCKETS should draft him lol
I don't people are sleeping on him. He was a Top 5 prospect entering this year. However, 1. There were high expectations for Oklahoma, and they have completely not met them. 2. Warren has not shown this year he can carry his team. Combine this with his shooting being fairly inconsistent, he has disappointed in his play to some extents. 3. I remember reading something about his coach saying he is not stepping to be leader or something. Not a good testament to come out in your last year of college. 4. He has gotten a bad ankle sprain during the early part of the Big 12 schedule which will make it hard for him to show he is as good as advertised at the end. 5. Their new PG (cannot remember his name) has figured out how to play. He had a 30+ pt game last week. He is currently playing much better than Warren was for a stretch. All of those have revealed some cracks. Warren still has time this year to show he has what it takes and he will likely impress in workouts. Xavier has all the skills, but I remember grumblings about work ethic and attitude before this season started. However he is a freshman, so that could have been just talk or whatnot, and he could grow a good deal this year. Given our current team, we should pick Xavier. Warren seems like he would be a tweener 2/"not perfect" 1. Henry is what we need and I sort of feel he has a better chance of being a No.1/2 option. Though, Bill Self players have not always done as well in the pros as they did in college. I think Deron Williams is the only one who has really panned out (though I'm likely forgetting someone here). However, when you have this high of a pick with a team of role players, you have to take the risk/reward pick because you need that go-to-player and we will not have a draft spot to take a John Wall or Evan Turner like player who is a for-sure go-to wing.
I agree completely. I think he can become a number 1 option here due to the fact that Yao is constantly fronted and because of that its hard to give him the ball. He can break down down the defense with his penetration and allow Yao to get easier shots. Look out for him tonight on ESPN
Not exactly spectacular in conference play, looking at the numbers. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/player/profile?playerId=46115
This thread would have been much better a month ago. Henry is talented-no doubt about that- but he's been showing some glaring weaknesses in his game. While he has great size for a 2, he has at best average athleticism and wingspan. He isn't explosive, and can't handle the ball well enough to make up for it. Those may come in time, but to be a go to scorer in the NBA, you have to be athletic enough to create your own shot, and Henry hasn't shown that. Normally this wouldn't be enough to pass on him, especially in the middle of the first round, but Henry recently struggles with what he is supposed to do best: 3-point shooting. Henry was exceptional at the start of the season from behind the arc. But he's only made 13 of his last 50 attempts or so. Inconsistency is a killer, especially for someone who will be playing off Yao and must be able to consistently hit outside shots without a high or consistent volume of touches. This may be a moot point in a month or so. Ironically, if Henry pulls out of his slump and has a great tournament performance, he probably won't fall to us. If he doesn't, he may slip past us or stay for another year
