Bryan Singer Confirmed for Superman! Source: Variety Monday, July 19, 2004

Both good news and bad news. Variety has just confirmed that "X-Men" series director Bryan Singer signed a deal Friday to develop and direct Warner Bros.' Superman. The bad? He will not be doing X-Men 3. Here are highlights from the article, we'll link to the full article if/when it becomes available...

-Singer, who helmed "The X-Men" comicbook adaptations for Fox, is expected to work with "X-2" scribes Michael Dougherty and Dan Harris to draft a tentpole that starts production late this year in Australia.

-A tug-of-war over Singer's next project had been going on for weeks, with Fox's third "X-Men" installment competing with Warner's remake of "Logan's Run" to land the helmer. It now looks likely that Singer will not do the third "X-Men," even though he has an overall deal with Fox.

-Besides the recent exit of helmer McG from the "Superman" project, producers Neal Moritz and Gilbert Adler have apparently disappeared from the scene as well. The fate of Jon Peters also is up in the air.

-The studio apparently scrapped a J.J. Abrams script that WB once was high on.

-The studio tapped Australia as a reasonably priced shooting location, with a budget said to be around $200 million, and wanted to put the franchise in the hands of Adler and Moritz. But Moritz's deal was never made and it's uncertain whether Adler, who did have a deal, will remain involved.

-The WMA-repped Singer also is said to have a new take on the pic. Before his involvement, it was to revolve around Superman's battle with Lex Luthor and a mysterious figure from Krypton who has come to hunt down the Man of Steel.

-"My interest in Superman dates back many, many years," Singer said. "In fact, it was the Richard Donner classic film that was my day-to-day inspiration in shaping the X-Men universe for the screen. I feel that Superman has been late in his return and it is time for him to fly again."

This sucks, Singer is not doing X3. I'm sure they can find another good director, but X2 ended with a setup for the next movie. Singer has left and he took 2 of the writers with him.

Ok...we had our spiderman trolls...i'll be a superman troll.

I freaking can't stand Superman. Zero character. Where's the interest?? The character is nearly indestructable, unless you happen to possess some rock from a distant planet. So he goes out and kicks ass. Where's the danger?? Where's the room for courage when you're faster that a speeding bullet and more powerful than a locomotive?? And you can fly??

    Superman can bite me. :D

It's all right. Beats me seeing a pile of dung in a public toilet today, if that makes you feel better.

So this is who CD has been waiting for.
He could probably hit the boards and give us some much needed D at the 4.

    Nice lineup:

    PG: Superman
    SG: Spider-Man
    SF: Silver Surfer
    PF: Beast
    C: Hulk

We're talking top 3 in the West right there. With all the bad contracts being given out right now, I really don't want to give a full MLE deal to Hulk. He only plays well when he's angry. JVG won't like that. Maybe he'll take half the MLE. Hopefully, we can use the TE to get Wolverine from the Knicks. He's my pick for our long-term solution at the 3.

What about Thing? He is a monster under the boards because nonbody can block him out.

I still say we should go after Shazam at PG and try and use the TE on a couple of the Ninja Turtles as bench players. Maybe we could even lure the Green Lantern out of retirement to help JVG on the coaching side?

I think we need Mr. Fantastic or Plastic Man, their ablity to stretch should make them excellent shot blockers.

Speaking of Green Lantern, they are making that movie too and it's going to be a comedy starring Jack Black.

I thought Green Lantern was a comedy.

    "My weakness...is the color yellow."

    Lame.

Wolverine will never leave the Knicks. He loves living in CT.

I liked Superman when Batman was kicking his a** in The Dark Knight Returns.

At least made him seem beatable.

Spiderman would be the perfect PG that we have been looking for all summer. He is young, athletic, great vision, and you got to love those sticky fingers! Plus he get paid minimum too. ;)

They will never, ever be able to top Superman & Superman II with Christopher Reeve. I wonder if they'll try that stupid cartoon crap like they did w/the new Star Wars, Spiderman, and Hulk.

    i agree. Superman is lame.
Despite Spiderman being the biggest thing since the last big thing, I'll always love my Spidey comics.

    Favorite Superman Joke:

Superman flying one day, sees Wonder Woman lying naked and moaning. Superman feels zesty and swoops in and out like lightning to do his business. Feeling the mighty gust of wind, Wonder Woman sits up and asks "What was that?" Whereby the invisible man answers "I don't know, but whatever it was, my butt hurts like hell." (Clean version) :D

Damn Marvel guys :). Superman and Flash, are the best two teams available. The games would be unwatchable (God I'm tired of talking about unwatchable bb) and the referees would suck, but hell the NBA loves offense :).

    Superman sucks..

I have never liked his character because he is too powerful unless you have a piece of that green rock (which is already rare) ..

when someone shows him the kryptonite why doesnt he just blow to Alaska with his super breath? It takes time for the kryptonite to work right?

oh well.. I think the reason people like the other heroes is that they have some sense of vulnerability.. Spiderman gets beat up too but he fights and fights back.

Superman if you strip him of his power automatically becomes a wuss.
