Matthew Vaughn. He's a friend of Guy Ritchie's. He produced Guy's movies and directed his own movie, Layer Cake. I watched the trailer for Layer Cake and it's just another London "underground" movie. Do mobsters like this really exist in London? Anyways, I guess I have to watch this movie before I judge, but it doesn't look too interesting, at least from the trailer.

I haven't really checked out the fanboy reaction to this yet. Some people are not happy, some people are waiting to see what he does, and others are already comparing this to the hiring of Singer. I guess since I've saw Singer's movies before X-Men came out, I felt it was an interesting and gutsy choice at the time. This decision almost feels reckless. I hope it works out.

Found out about this from Aint it Cool: http://aintitcool.com/display.cgi?id=19635

Some of the names who were up for the job were Joss Whedon, Alfonso Cuaron, and Guillermo Del Toro. If I could have had it my way, Cuaron would direct and Whedon would write the script.

From what I read of Whedon's run on the X-Men (astonishing X-men, IIRC) I thought he did a great job.
