I know we have a few WWE fans here so I would like to hear yalls thoughts on WWE is setting up here with this Daniel Bryan situation. I think this has the potential to be huge. Last night, Bryan beat the face of the company John Cena to win the WWE championship for all of 5 minutes when Triple H (who was the special guest ref) turned heel and pedigreed Bryan which led to Randy Orton also turning heel and cashing in the Money in the Bank contract on him and stealing the WWE championship. Tonight on Raw they basically came out and said they did what was best for business and that Bryan can't represent the WWE as the face of the company so its basically setting up a Bryan vs HHH/McMahon/Orton and it kind of has the feel of Austin/McMahon from the attitude era, the promos on Raw were phenomenal tonight and it really solidified both HHH and Orton as heels now especially with Orton attacking Bryan at the end. I believe this angle has the potential to push Bryan into a mega star. Im super excited to see where this goes.
And they're just gonna let Cena wade around in the shallow end? It's gonna take a lot more for them to recreate Stone Cold vs Corporation.
Used to watch wrestling, don't anymore. I watch an episode for nostalgia, but the product just seems way to bland, especially with the growth of UFC. Daniel Bryan is okay, but the WWE needs a real game changer if they want to have any type of impact again. I think they really have to make one believe this isn't fake, they have to suspend our disbelief. It'll always work as a kid's product as it is now, but I'm sure they'll want a growing fan base.
Three names: 1) CM Punk: Pros: The best on the mic and probably the third best in-ring performer in the WWE. Doesn't have the look but his work over the last few years have elevated him to over status. Cons: Doesn't have to look and I know Vince does not like him too much. Dude's been the best worker over the last two and half years and still hasn't had a main event at Wrestlemania. 2) Daniel Bryan: Pros: Pretty damn good on the mic and probably the second best in-ring performer in the WWE, arguably the best. Cons: If you think CM Punk doesn't have the look, Daniel Bryan is a notch below him. 3) Dolph Ziggler: Pros: IMO the best in-ring performer in the WWE. The best at selling moves. I haven't seen anyone sell a move like him since Shawn Michaels. He does have the look the WWE likes. Cons: The mic skill needs a lot of work. It's average. All in all, I think these three are the best three in the company. Each has their flaws but each are loved despite them...You can even saw their flaws are the reasons why people love these guys. (Although Ziggler isn't as over as the other two) Here's to hoping Punk/Bryan at Wrestlemania for the WWE Title.
Punk is the future...he has the charisma. He called out the fan tonight in the audience, goes off script. We know the show is fake, but then again so is every television show that everyone obsesses over. At least this is live and maybe 5 percent is real. Best in the world!
Punk is the short term solution. He's an old 34. He's been wrestling non-stop for years. Got a short break after Wrestlemania. I think Ziggler and Bryan (though 33 and 32 respectively) are the future. They have more tread on their tires. Punk's my favorite guy also but I'm really afraid his injuries will mount up sooner rather than later.
Sin cara. Jesus H. That's a botch a match. About 60 seconds in, he breaks his arm. You know who annoys me? The Bellas. They're only getting run because one is ****ing John Cena, and the other is ****ing Daniel Bryan. Cena is supposed to be out for 4 to 6 months. Aka, return as number 30 at the rumble. We've all seen this angle ten years ago. Same old McMahons. This time, instead of a bald man with a goatee, we have a vegan with a beard. I saw tag teams. I guess that's nice.
Has wrestling ever been so predictable yet so entertaining? I predicted Summerslam almost perfectly, yet was fully entertained. It's also pretty obvious that this new corporation (Vince, Trips, RKO, Shield) will run everything until Bryan wins the Royal Rumble and eventually the title at Wrestlemania.... Can't wait!

This angle clearly has huge potential, but given what creative has put forth over the last decade or so I have no reason to believe they will capitalize on that potential. I don't even watch raw regularly anymore, but I'll be paying attention for the next few weeks at least. I was hoping Ziggler made the save when Byran was getting attacked at the end, could have really helped Ziggler get some anti-corporation face momentum. I'm afraid they will run with Bryan for a little while, and then bring Cena back as the conquering hero in an angle that could lead all the way up to mania. Ever since WCW collapsed there has just been no pressing need to put forth a consistently great product.
I love this new story line with Daniel Bryan. He's finally getting the push he deserves. If only they'd wake up and do the same for Dolph. Dude had his belt for like a month before they took it away. They pretty much use him as a stepping stone for the younger guys.
Cena is out for 4-6 months with a torn triceps. Daniel Bryan is so over with the crowd right now it is ridiculous. This is the perfect opportunity for them to build another mega star.
Offtopic: Why the hell isn't there at least a dedicated WWE thread on Clutchfans? I always see one-off threads like when WrestleMania comes around or something major happens in the hangout but there should be a general one possibly in the "Other Sports" section or if not that, fantasy sports? That way, it can weed out the customary "wrestling is fake", "I used to watch wrestling but not anymore comments". I mean do people jump into the Breaking Bad thread and put in the snarky "I dont watch it anymore, Go Game of Thrones!" on that? On Topic: I think if WWE does it right, Bryan can be propelled into Main Event status but again he has the size issue and the fact that he doesn't give Vince McMahon a hard-on in the looks department. I do agree that they need a game-changer to be considered good again and possibly a change in presentation. It's still "Attitude Era-esque" in its format. They need to evolve and borrow trends that work in reality TV and in UFC and such. But compared to years ago when wrestling was red-hot, the depth chart is pretty deep in terms of talent. They just need the right creative direction and not be so hokey with their characters and stories.
WWE's head writer was let go months ago and a new guy stepped in. This is when you started to see HUGE changes and started to become much more enjoyable to watch. I believe the new head writer's first show was when Brock Lesnar came back after his few months off.
