I've been running Avast for years. Every once in awhile, it'll pick something up, but it's pretty rare. I also regularly run AVG, Spybot, and CCleaner.

Now, I can barely load Firefox before Avast starts going nuts saying it's detecting multiple viruses. It even goes haywire with Clutchfans.

I stopped the providers from running because I've got ***** to do, and for now my PC seems to be running fine.

I'm running XP and I play on the internet like most normal people. I generally know what I'm doing, I don't download attachments via email unless I know what it is and who it is from, etc.

    This is driving me nuts.

I uninstalled and reinstalled Avast to no avail.

    Any thoughts?

the easiest way is to use system restore. choose a point before it happened. it's under start -> programs -> accessories -> system tools.

Anyone have any idea why my Outlook program is opening? About once per day it opens the compose mail window with the same email address on it.

I do not have any other problems or pop ups. It is really weird.

I would install malwarebytes and superantispyware and try running those along with avast in safe mode. If that doesn't work than you could try the avira rescue disk which is basically avira antivirus on a bootdisc. If that doesn't work out then I'd system restore or reformat. But most the times the combination of avira, malwarebytes, and superantispyware does a good job of cleaning up the systems. Hopefully they work out for you or you find a way to resolve your problem. Good luck!

    I wish.

    What does this do, exactly?

    I'll look into these. Thanks.

this changes your system files and registry back to the specified point, hopefully when you didn't have any viruses or adware. your programs and documents are not affected.
