    1. Shaquille O'Neal, Miami: He changes the game. You have to gear your defense around containing him. He's an unstoppable force. Blah, blah, blah. You've heard it all before about the Diesel, who remains the best despite the fact his production has steadily declined. He's learned to pace himself for the playoffs, so you have to deal with him floating through the regular season, but his contributions can still win you a ring. He'll look for one for the thumb in '07.

    2. Dwight Howard, Orlando: He'll be just 21 in December, but looks ready to enter the conversation when speaking about the game's top big men. He had more rebounds than anyone else last season, and his offensive game continues to grow. Getting in extra work with Team USA this summer is only going to accelerate his development. It's no surprise that Dwyane Wade, who would know, has called Howard a younger version of Shaq.

    3. Amare Stoudemire, Phoenix: Had Stoudemire not required knee surgery last October, he might have already topped this list -- and O'Neal might not have picked up his fourth ring. The Suns excelled without Stoudemire but might have won it all with him on board, especially if he could've picked up where he left off in 2005. He put in the rehab work to bounce back strong, but it remains to be seen whether his body cooperates. In putting him this high on this list, I'm betting the 23-year-old is successful in his comeback.

    4. Yao Ming, Houston: After coming back from toe surgery last season, he finally started to become the dominant presence he has long been expected to be. Yes, Tracy McGrady was out, so Yao got more looks, but it was his assertiveness that commanded attention. Check out these March averages: 27.6 points, 11 rebounds. Then he went out and broke his foot. With last year's cursed season behind them, the Rockets hope Yao can stay healthy and repeat as the leading scorer among centers.

Well, if you consider true Centers, he's still #2...

The knock on Yao is that he broke his foot, but Amare gets a pass for his knee surgery? And Yao is finally the presence he was long expected to be, but fellow overall 1st pick Howard gets the luxury of having time to allow his offensive game to grow? And Shaq getting a ring had nothing to do with Dwade. As stupid as these articles are, it's still fun to rip apart.

no, if you consider anything you want to consider, yao ming is the best center in the world. when yao came back after the all-star break he was on a higher level then shaq. factor in shaq's certain decline, no matter how small it may be, and yao's continued improvement and it's no contest who the better center is.

i'm not wasting time debating him vs. howard, that's a freaking joke.

amare, as well. he's coming off major knee surgery and played what a week last season? yao at his best last season was better then amare was PRE-surgery.

i hate when people play the race card but there is no question in my mind that if yao ming was an african-american born in the US and any of the other three where chinese this list would look completely different.

F@#k the haters. nothing drives me more as a rocket's fan then to have yao ming just shut these bastards up.

What's new? The guy has been a Yao hater from the very beginning. Don't take him too seriously.

Dwight Howard may end up being better than Yao before it's over, but right now? Gimme a break!

Yao is already better than Shaq.

Next season it's very doubtful Amare will return to form.

Yeah you said it right. I was pretty surprised to see AMARE above yao for crying out loud. It's ok though guys. We'll just bring up this article again when yao averages his 25/12 and we'll email this guy and make him do a follow up story to compare yao agains those guys.

And to those who really feel Shaq was #1, he got a LOT of time off last year from his injury and on the bench cause of Zo. Yao's pretty much doing the job himself, plus he was playing intense through his injury. Shaq's on the decline and will probably be half of what he was last season. Everyone here knows its true too.

Before looking at this thread, I was afraid that he would rank Dampier and Caveman before Yao.

Unbelievable. Dwight Howard has really improved and seems to be the next big thing. However, Yao should be top 3 at least. Amare is a joke.

Disregard. This is the same guy who had Yao 5th last year behind Bosh. I like Bosh, but he's definately not a center, and he's just not better than Yao. Same thing for Dwight Howard. I like him, but you can't rank him above Yao with such a raw offensive game.

Wait, thought Yao is #5 because Ben Wallace is always in front of him. Oh wait again, since Miller has made the Team USA as well so he should be #5 and Yao #6.

I'd rather believe the Juwan+Novak for Odom trade.

Look at the pictures in the article:

    ^Subliminal diss at Yao?

^Howard looks really happy to be considered #2.

^Amare looks like he finds something funny. As if he knows Yao's better than him, but is laughing that he's still ranked above him.

^Yao has a WTF look on his face, like he can't believe he's #4.

I love how they Promote two Forwards to Center
just so they can push Ming down

    Sad Sad

Shaq is arguable. . mainly because of the Myth/Aura/presense
he brings to the game. . like it or not
He is a major Difference maker .. even when he sucking

But Howard won't play center. . i think Darko will
    nor will Amare
    some Random Scrub will

Well . . could be worse. . they could have put Ben Wallace
    ahead of him
    or
    Chris Kaman

Thought id share my comment to him to you guys....

Your article is total BS PERIOD. Anyone who ranks Yao 4th best is not only ignorant when it comes to basketball knowledge but also when it comes to writing sports articles in general. Howard 2nd for rebounding? Amare 3rd for what... what exactly did he do last season and for that matter the world championships? Oops he didnt even make it to the World games cause of the injury. Anyways just thought you would like some more fluffy emails. Sincerely, E
