...oh yeah I forgot to mention that the approval ratings of EVERYONE in DC fell. The Democrats in congress saw one of the biggest drops (and have a lower approval rating than congressional Republicans by 2%). Condi still comes in above 50% (52% to be exact) but she's about it. Seems that it's not just Bush who's being put through the ringer. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://online.wsj.com/public/articl...2bx6maguMY_20061116.html?mod=tff_main_tff_top Bush's Approval Rating Falls Again, Poll Shows THE WALL STREET JOURNAL ONLINE November 17, 2005 President Bush's positive job rating continues to fall, touching another new low for his presidency, the latest Harris Interactive poll finds. Bush's current job approval rating stands at 34%, compared with a positive rating of 88% soon after 9/11, 50% at this time last year, and 40% in August. And he's not alone. Cabinet members, Congressional leaders and both parties in Congress have also seen their ratings slip, with Democrats seeing one of the biggest dips in approval, the telephone poll of 1,011 U.S. adults shows. Vice President Dick Cheney's approval ratings slipped to 30% this month from 35% in August, while Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld's approval ratings dropped to 34% from 40% and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice's approval ratings fell to 52% from 57%, according to the poll. At the same time, only a quarter of Americans polled give Democrats a positive rating in the latest poll, compared with 31% in August, while Republicans' approval ratings fell to 27% from 32%. Mr. Bush's current ratings don't compare favorably with those of three of the last four two-term presidents at a comparable time in their fifth year in office. In November or October of their fifth year, Presidents Johnson (67%), Reagan (66%) and Clinton (58%) all enjoyed the support of majorities, while President Nixon (29%) was less popular than Mr. Bush is now. (See related chart) In the most recent poll, Americans were also asked to name the two most important issues that the U.S. government needs to address. When considering the most important issues, 34% of those polled say the war is most important, 13% said the economy and 13% said Iraq. Other issues mentioned were health care (11%), education (10%) and taxes (9%). I dont think anyone is happy with any of the politicians in Washington, they're all acting like a bunch of children at the moment... all they are doing is wasting valuable dollars on inquiries and mudslinging one another.
The mudslinging has been going on for a while now, but they're wasting valuable dollars on a whole lot more than just "inquiries".
who cares? we don't have a parliamentary system. the operative fact is that this is one of the least popular presidents in the history of opinion polls, which makes sense as his 5 years have been a failure, that much is obvious.
I heard Dick Morris say they other night that he went to work for Clinton when his approval ratings were this low.... ~36-7%
Do yourself a favor and stop listening to Dick Morris unless he's directing you to a good place for prostitutes. The guy is full of it.
lol. I never loved the Clintons, and I certainly thought they were wrong for working with Morris. There are few people in politics as sleazy and gross as him.
Care to expand on this? I know the man, Morris, had a thing for toes... Other than that (?) how was he sleazy? Was he your Karl Rove?
No, I don't think Morris is as cutthroat as Karl Rove, and he certainly isn't as capable of playing and winning the political game. I think he was sleezy and gross because of his switching sides from Reagan to Clinton, to Fox, etc. He was sleezy for for penchant from prostitutes and getting caught with them. His attitude always seems like he knows something important that nobody else knows, and he makes redictions that come out wrong far more often than they are right, yet he still has that smugness. He just has sleeziness oozing from him. It is more a personal dislike of what I've seen of the men, more than a set of factual data. It is nothing I would debate with somebody. It's just personal preference.
Approval ratings in several key states below 40% is rather amazing. Florida, Ohio, Virginia, Arkansas, Missouri, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, New Hampshire, Colorado... all potential swing states in '08. It will be a better gauge in '06, when the Congressional elections play out. Any wonder that Republicans in Congress are suddenly running as far from Bush as they think they can get away with? The Republican leaders in the House and Senate are both under investigation, with Delay temporarily (he thinks) forced out, leaving things in disarray. Bush's sudden attack of globe trotting has made him look even more foolish, when trips like that typically have a good effect on public opinion. The US backed Arab League sponsored conference, designed to help bring the Iraqi factions together, seems to have managed to bring them together in their dislike of our presence in their country, to the extent that "open season," has been declared on Coalition forces. "Blowing up and shooting our (Coalition) troops and contractors is OK, so long as you guys stop blowing up Iraqi civilians," was the message sent from the conference. I was dismayed to hear about it. The silence about that is deafening from the Administration, and little wonder. They must be stunned. I was. Nothing seems to be going right for the Bush Administration. And he's back in Crawford. For once, I don't blame him. Keep D&D Civil.
I remember all of these polls coming out every week in Bush's first term and he was still re-elected. Its his second term and time to make an impact and have some resolve when others will just pander for votes for their next election. But Oh no! He won't get re-elected or made into the Divine Caesar!
