The Rockets agreed to accept ALL of Eckels demands. They did so because, as they said to me, "we really want to stay in Houston." If this isn't good-faith negotiating, I don't know what it. Now, it is time to make sure that Eckels is a man of his word and agrees to support this deal now that his demands have been met. We just set up two new templates at Save Our Rockets - one for him and one for his buddy, Paul Bettencourt. Send them both!!! We are almost there. With their support, despite how we may feel about them, this thing has a much better chance of passing. http://www.saveourrockets.com/email.cfm ------------------ Save Our Rockets and Comets SaveOurRockets.com
Watchout for those serious police Great news Jeff!!! Thanks ------------------ In order to be a success in life, you need 2 things: 1. Don't tell everything you know.
I think Mango will grant you a waiver. It is a roster change sort of....if they're playing in a different stadium. Right? ------------------ The Serious Police are watching. Follow the rules or be assimilated. Shandon is underrated.
I just heard the news on the radio. Looks like things are headed in the right direction. Its time to give Alexander some credit. This guy has been and is an excellent owner. Now lets see if Eckles has as much integrity in his word. ------------------
Hey, what were the demands that he wanted? I was just curious. Thanks ------------------ Don't EVER underestimate the Heart of a CHAMPION!
According to his letter: 1. Renovations: He did not want the agreement language to "require" a renovation of the arena after 15 years if the arena could be financed at a lower interest rate. He wants the savings to be used to reduce the debt if savings can be had at all. 2. NHL: He wants the playing field opened up to allow other owners the potential of purchasing an NHL team an moving it here - possibly even playing in an arena at the Astrodome. 3. Ticket tax: He wanted the ticket tax language to be cleaned up. 4. Non-Compete: He wants them to change the non-compete agreement to last only 10 years and encompass a radius of 10 miles around the arena. In addition, he wants the Astrodomain to be exempted from the non-compete agreement. ------------------ Save Our Rockets and Comets SaveOurRockets.com

Admins have a specaial pass to: post where they want when they want how they want If they wanted to, my registration to post on this BBS could be revoked by them. It would make some BBS members quite happy to see Mango banned, but I have no plans to cause that to happen. Mango ------------------ 1. Put new topics in the proper forum 2. Use clear wording for new threads 3. No duplicate threads 4. Conduct yourself as an adult The Serious Police are watching Donate Blood or be assimilated!
Les, if you're reading this: Win or lose (hopefully win) in November, would you send a decent-sized check in Jeff Balke's direction? The man has given up much of his life to keep us informed and keep the Rockets where they belong. Thanks for the info, Jeff. You...are like a god to me. Well, in any case, you have mustered the energy to do what so many of us could only talk of doing. We appreciate your efforts. ------------------
Thanks, Roxtxia. My pleasure. I just want the damn thing to pass so I can quit worrying about arenas and start worrying about the really important stuff again...the games!!! ------------------ Save Our Rockets and Comets SaveOurRockets.com
Jeff: You are sincerely appreciated more than you can imagine. Have your lady pat you (massage?) on the back. Actually, you probably have been neglecting her a whole lot,so forget that, just have a cool one on me, and smile nicely at her as you pass through the house ....... LOL
I can't help but wonder what is really going on behind the scenes. There are clearly some big games being played. You have to wonder if Eckels is thinking Bush will win and then Watson might lead him to a federal judgeship. Perhaps Watson has made him promises regarding a possible replacement team for the Rockets. Only a handful of people really know. What bothers me is the man is supposed to be a public servant. His actions should be open to public scrutiny and he is not supposed to use his position to accrue personal profit or benefit. I would just like to know the truth. Some of the catch phrases that are treated as an altruism in the US are that we have "an open society" and "it's a free country" and we have a "free press." Situations like this show how untrue it is. If it were true, we the public, we the taxpayers, would know what the hell is going on behind the closed doors. This is not private business here. This is public business. These people work for us. We have a right to know. I know, I know--- It goes on in Washington every day. I just dont agree with it. ------------------
