eh.. i've cooled on him. I thought he'd be a good pickup but everyone I've ever talked to who follows Memphis says he too has Stromile Swift-esque intelligence. Low BB-IQ player who rebounds decently but takes dumb idiotic shots. He'll take long, bad jumpers like Stro and does a poor job of staying within the flow of the offense. I'm not sad at all about this.
way I see it is, the reason these guys are being signed for so little and we aren't the ones signing them is simple -- we didn't want them. so I'm not hurt either, I agree with ya. I still feel like we're missing 1 excellent player or so, I hope we grab someone...if sura comes back and he's similar to what he was two years ago that'd be enough for me.
The part I am alarmed with is the lack of any significant backup at the 4/5 like Stro was last year. Deke had only an average season last year and is a year older. If Yao needs more rest we don't have anyone to cover the 5 more than 10-15 mins a game. And then our whole offensive dynamic changes. This is an element that the mgt has to address IMO.
I think after Al Harrington chooses a team and is traded by the Hawks we will make a trade to get a rebounder. Deke is just a 3rd string center and we still need a backup behind Yao.
