This was on Ralph Wiley's chat today----

Richard (Houston): What should the Rockets do this offseason to help themselves?

Ralph Wiley: (3:46 PM ET ) Wrap Yao in cotton.

I'm not quite sure what he's trying to say....

    Any thoughts ????

Yea we dont need yao to be any softer then he is. If steve is traded for pieces that fit instead of a star in return I hope this team doesnt go down the drain. Its a gamble to start building around yao so early in his career, but there are alot of stars that could be traded for this year.

wiley is too vague here. does he mean to protect him because he gets banged all the time or that they should package and trade him?

If he meant to say Yao is soft and needs protection, he would say 'wrap him in steel'. Would that have make more sense?

Man he'd look like the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man. Pretty bad analogy, but pretty bad analysis. Do they want him to play soft or what? Lakers fans, er.. national media?

I think he means to protect him this summer while he plays for the Chinese NT.

That's usually what the phrase means.

Well if that's the case then why didn't he just say, "Stick Yao in a box and surround him with styrofoam peanuts. Oh yeah, and don't forget poke some holes too... before Yao gets in the box."

page 2 commentator for ESPN. he's actually a big Yao fan.

he once wrote an article about how in 2010 Yao will be surveying the field of corpses that is the NBA landscape after his Ghengis Khan like conquests.

He also wrote something about Eddie Griffin hanging with a bad crowd long before it became common knowledge.
