    Although first reported as 240 with a possible max of 264 the Rangers have just agreed to a 10 year 250 million deal with A-Rod. [IMG]

    The Rangers look loaded on offense. Palmeiro, AROD, Pudge, Cammy, Greer, Big Cat, Kapler.

    "I am" is reportedly the shortest sentence in the English language. Could it be that "I do" is the longest sentence ?

    Goes to show that money talks. All this "I want to compete for a championship" stuff is garbage. Because for all their offense, Texas is going to lose alot of 13 to 11 games.

    Damn it.

    Fox SW in Austin doesn't show Rockets games, but shows the Crap'stros during the baseball season.

    I'd rather see some Rangers baseball. Of course, whatever is on paper doesn't necessarily mean wins. Remember the Reds from this season.

    Next season's Rangers prices :

    Rangers hat - 3 easy payments if $19.95
    12oz. Beer - $9.99
    Hot Dog - $8.99 (Ketchup & mustard 1.00 extra)
    Peanuts - $8.99
    A-Rod Jersey - $999.99
    Program - $19.99

    Another work stoppage looms after the 01' season because of similar situations to A-Rods(out of control salaries).
    Manny "no glove" Ramirez already has stated he wants 200 million.......

    A-Rod-Ometer: How fat is his wallet?
    By Darren Rovell
    ESPN.com

    For $252 million, A-Rod can buy ...
    * 112 million hot dogs or 112 million sodas at the Ballpark in Arlington
    * 12,811,387 tickets at the Ballpark in Arlington (more than three seasons of sellouts)
    * 1,054,393 pairs of Tony Lama Python Boots (not including tax)
    * 86,597,938 bottles of Back Forty Texas BBQ sauce
    * 5,857 Chevrolet Suburbans (model K1500)
    * 5,978,647 shares of Nike stock
    * 504,000 of his highly graded 1994 rookie cards

    Lineup you can buy with $21 million
    Using A-Rod's 2001 salary of $21 million, here's a lineup you could have had for that amount in 2000 that includes both MVPs:

    C: Jason Kendall, $2.25 million
    1B: Jason Giambi, $3.1 million
    2B: Jeff Kent, $6 million
    3B: Fernando Tatis, $750,000
    SS: Miguel Tejada, $290,000
    LF: Darin Erstad, $2.1 million
    CF: Brian Giles, $1.8 million
    RF: Vladimir Guerrero, $3.5 million
    DH: Magglio Ordonez, $425,000
    SP: Tim Hudson, $250,000
    RP: Keith Foulke, $375,000

    Total team payroll: $20.84 million

    How much per game?
    Athletes earning a similar total per game as Alex Rodriguez:

    * Rodriguez: $129,629
    * Reggie Miller, Indiana Pacers: $130,121
    * Paul Kariya, Anaheim Mighty Ducks, and Peter Forsberg, Colorado Avalanche: $121, 951
    * Courtney Brown, Cleveland Browns: $169,271

    How long would it take?
    * If Alex Rodriguez wanted to spend all of his $252 million in the next 10 years, he'd have to spend $2,877 per hour -- around the clock.
    * It would take 23,525 years for a worker earning minimum wage to earn $252 million.

    What his "neighbors" make
    Average salaries in Dallas, according to salary.com:

    * Senior architect: $61,229
    * TV reporter: $54,048
    * Pastry chef: $53,276
    * Athletic trainer: $41,006

    For sale: one shortstop or two non-competitive baseball teams
    Using franchise values according to Forbes:

    * 12: Number of baseball teams worth more than $252 million (including the Yankees at $548 million and the Rangers at $294 million)
    * 2: Number of baseball teams worth less than $100 million (Twins at $91 million, Expos at $89 million)
    * 4: Number of basketball teams worth more than $252 million (including the Knicks at $395 million and the Suns are worth $252 million)
    * 1: Number of hockey teams worth more than $252 million (the Rangers at $263 million)
    * 31: Number of football teams worth more than $252 million

    no baseball player is worth that much. I mean its much harder for a baseball player to carry the team on his back. its not like basketball where a shaq, hakeem or jordan can carry the team.

    How can the baseball owners cry about salary problems when they continue to sign these guys to outrageous contracts. I don't fault ARod for taking whatever they gave him. He was obviously worth $252 mil to the Rangers.

    If the Rangers would FINALLY go after what they need most...PITCHING, and stop worrying so much about the bats they might be able to get out of the 1st round someday!

    ADDRESS THE MISSING PIECES OF THE EQUATION!

    Sure, it's nice to get a player of AROD's stature, but get some hurlers will ya?
