IN my opinion, it was. Earlier tonight, I was literally ambushed by 2 Owls in my front yard while playing basketball. IF anybody seems to be interested I'll waste my time by telling you my amazing story.
I was doing my nightly rountine out in my front yard. I live on a quiet dead end street, brand new aspahlt and there is a street light right across the street from my court (maybe 20 feet from my goal post, perfect location for the light to shine on my court). As I was saying, I was doing my usual rountine of playing, dribbling, shooting my basketball around in my front yard. The time was 9 PM. One hour Ago and the street light had just turned on 10 minutes before that time and my eyes were well adjusted to see what ever was to come my way. I was testing to see what level/height I can dunk the ball on when out from the top of the 40 ft. high wooden light post comes 2 racoon sized Owls come swwwwwwooooooping my way. in that 20 ft. span from the post to my goal post, they flew down 30 feet in a matter of 10 feet and practically took off my head. I don't know what it was but at that same time I was going for a dunk and they just swooped down (2-3 inches off the ground) up to the top of the glass/backboard. I would say I was 12-24 inches from getting hit by them two. I got scared and ran towards the protection of my familie's car's and called my mother to check them out. They were perched ontop of the backboard for 7 or so minutes just staring at me. AS they flew away I thought nothing of it really. But 25 minutes later, while lifting weights in my backyard, I SEE THOSE "BIRDS" yet again. This time they were about 15 feet away from me, perched on a metal fence about 6 feet high. I lifed and lifted, they stayed and stared. I've never seen anything like this before in my life. Owls aren't typical in New Mexico. I'm not in shock at this moment,I just want to catch them next time and show them who's boss .
After much thought, it could have been my neighbor's peacocks. They have a Cat/Sea Lion Squell to them. They didn't make any of those noises towards me on there " food hunt" after me. Or maybe they were owls. All I could hear was the pounding of my tiny scared , life threatened heart beatings 400 times a minute.. Maybe I need to call the Animal Police.
catch them? you're nuts!! let them be. owls own the night, they hunt at night... you or the ball looked like a tasty morsel from up above and they just flew in for a closer look.... let the owls be, for they are wise creatures...
dont listen to him! EAT 'em and then goto mexico and catch that freakin chupacabra and eat that thing too.
Well I got a wild animal story.... This evening we were walking our dogs and we passed a house and this large dog bolted out of side gate and charged us!! It came out so fast we didn't even realize where it came from until it was already passed us... freaked us out more than our dogs who didn't even notice till we reacted!! it was just so freaky to have this huge animal run up and passed you and not realize it till after the fact! it didn't attack or anything but it had a small rat terrier type dog that seemed like he wanted to!!!
and thank goodness for that.... i think they just wanted to show us who's territory we were near... and their owner left their side gate open and they could run out after us!! it was just surprising to have this huge animal run out at us!
How old are you?? You had to call your mother to come check them out?!?!? And how does this qualify as a near death experience? A NDE is when you see the light and your life flashes in front of your eyes and stuff but then you come back down to Earth. Well anyways, my story happened a few days ago. I had been up all night and it was 7 in the morning when I went outside to go check on my car and to clean it out. I was cleaning out the trunk when all of a sudden a car passes behind me and something dark rushes under my car. I got freaked because at first I thought it was a dog then I thought it was a squirrel. But then, I looked under the car and nothing was there so I realized that it must've been some shadow. Never stay up all night and then go outside in the morning. You see things.
thats a crazy story UNMK4. I have a part animal part NDE story I'd like to share. one time not long ago in Boca Chica(a desolate beach on the border of texas/mexican border)my brother and me were surfing. there wasn't a soul around. we were pretty far out, third sandbar at least. All of a sudden a 12 ft shark at least(had to be a tiger) pops out of the water about 10 ft from us, thrashing his tail around...and...well... we didnt see what else he did because our assses were in a full on paddle like never before to the beach. that was the longest paddle of my life. and during that paddle to the beach, while my heart was beating a hundred beats per second, i had a long heart to heart with God, demanding he let me get back to the beach safely, and if he did, I'd be a good human and make better choices. Well I guess I didn't exactly hold my end of the bargain, God... but thanks anyways for getting me back to shore safely that day.
One time back in my lonely days in the late 80's, I found a beautiful dead owl on the side of the road. No blood, no cuts, just dead and a really beautiful feather pattern. That sucker musta weighed about 15lbs, I swear. Owls are bizarre creatures, stay inside for a while...
I've never heard of anyone being killed by an owl. for that matter, I've never heard of them hunting in tandem. That being said, if they were inclined to rip your throat out, a good sized one wouldn't have much trouble doing it. There's no shame in having a healthy respect for them. Hopefully, they won't be come a nuisance though.....I'd hate to see such a majestic creature destroyed.
