OK, I don't seriously think that Chuck Hayes will ever be considered all-star worthy, but I got a kick out of this anyways. David Berri, economist and author of The Wages of Wins, has his own formula for determining how much a player helps his team win, per minute. He claims that if GMs weighted his statistical approach much higher than the traditional PPG/RPG/APG numbers, than they'd be much more successful. Anyways, he basically comes up with his own top 10 "Future Stars" by ranking players who played at least 41 games and between 12 and 24 mpg by his metric. Chuck shows up in the top 10. He goes further to rank "distant future stars", young players who played less than 41 games last year. Another Rocket shows up on that list, though his spot on the roster is in jeopardy.

No he hasn't shot one in the preseason. He practiced all summer shooting with one hand and using his legs (something I have been yelling at him through the tv for 5 years) so apparently its improved some. There should be less hitch. On to the original topic. I find it interesting that all of the people in the list were mainly used defensively in their respective teams last year. Although Barnes Calderon and Ariza all three are in systems where they could get the ball a lot when then were in the game on the offensive end as well. Rajon I think will have a breakout year this year, so that one's not surprising. Calderon would be a starter on a several teams this year, so that's not surprising either. Balkman needs to be in a better environment. He's a hustler with some skills, but I feel sorry for anyone in NY. Hmmm.. should I make this a random trade proposal and see if we can't trade Isiah three young athletic players for one As far as any of them becoming stars.. not likely. Rondo or Delfino probably have the best chance to be highlighted as "stars". Most of those players though are highly productive in the minutes they get on the court, but increase the minutes and the productivity is going to go down. Interesting take though. Snyder has looked pretty good from a stat point for a couple of years, but he's one of those cases where it's obvious the stats aren't everything. He is a very one-dimensional player. He finishes with authority, but does little else. His 3-pt shooting is subpar, which he makes up for by not shooting them often. He's a lot like Desmond Mason -- looks good at times, but with major holes in his game, making it very hard to make him worth putting on the floor. He'd be much more useful if he were 3 inches taller. His game is really much more like a finishing power forward. He doesn't create enough to be a good perimeter player.
From the last two pregames I watched, Chuck has not shown much improvement. Well, His rebounding ability is still there, his defense especially against post players seems getting worse. The other night, Hornets rookie Armstrong scored on him quite easily a couple of times. I don't see how he can defend Duncan, Boozer, Nowitski and the likes power forward in western conference with him playing like that. Feign mentioned that Chuck had shown his good passing skills during training camp. I did see him passing a lot more in the two pregames, however, most of them were turnovers. At least once I sam him miss a layup on point blank range. But I don't think I can asses his improvement with that regard as well as on his free throws given that only two games played. I hope Scola's coming will bring the best out of Chuck...
I agree. He's still very agressive and I love it but he didn't show much improvement in the last two games yet. I hope he will lear somethin ofensivly to be able to create positions for him self. Scola is able to do that...and he's been doin' it so well
Chuck is a competitor with great skills around great skills player. He can stock up with the bigboys. He is a blue collar man!

Technically he didn't call them all stars, he just said stars. Battier is not an all star, but he's a star player in my book. Much like, Tayshaun Prince, wouldn't call him an all star but he can have a starring role in games. David Lee, he's not an all star, but I could call him a star player because the people in NY love the guy. Basically he's saying that these players, if they were playing more minutes, could be star quality players. Which most of them I don't think if you increase their minutes they will necessarily increase productivity. There are a couple, ie Calderon and Rondo that I think you will. Especially in the right situations.
Hayes is one of the best low block players that we have,he's so hardworking and motivated every game. So much will,desire,confidence you can see it But one thing he lacks is killer instict or in the other words offense... I don't see him starting but can be great factor on this team,x factor he needs to improve his shoot and shooting range dough
