Egads! I know its rather chic to trash Best Buy because of their lousy customer service and the way they always push the extended warranty plans onto unsuspecting customers... But I actually had a positive experience at Best Buy today. I went in because I had ordered the new Samsung 50" DLP HLP model television online several weeks ago. I wanted to take a good look at it in the store and compare it to the older HLN model. So while I'm comparing the two at the store, I obviously am approached by a salesman who asks if I have any questions. I tell him I'm planning to buy the new HLP, and I was just inspecting it. He started to give me the store-fed spiel about its advantages, and I politely told him I had already done all of the research. Out of the blue, I decided to ask him, "Do you guys pricematch with Internet sites?" Expecting a hearty laugh and a resounding "NO!" in return, imagine my surprise when he asked me, "How much?" I told him the price and he said, "Do you have proof? Do you have a printout?" In my sudden shock, I told him I had a copy in the car, knowing full well that I did not. He told me to go grab it and bring it to him for inspection. Suddenly, I freaked. What to do, what to do? I could drive to my office (five minutes away) and print out a copy. But by then he may disappear or change his mind. Thinking fast, I jumped behind one of the computers in the "PC" department and used a Best Buy machine to go to the web site and print out a copy of the online sale. (Luckily, no one saw me). I quickly jogged back to the guy, who read my print out and displayed a look of astonishment that only a mother catching her son masturbating could understand. "Wow. What a price" he uttered. I asked if he could match it, and he told me to wait while he talked to his manager. 15 minutes later, he returned and said they could match the price, match the free shipping, but by law they had to charge me sales tax. However, if I were to subscribe to the Best Buy Reward Zone crap, I'd get $145 back in store gift certificates. So I had to decide. Wait until the end of July to get my TV, save several hundred bucks on tax, and take a chance at purchasing this thing online... or spend several hundred bucks in tax more to buy the TV from a store that offered a warranty that actually covered the bulb for the TV (very rare) and get the TV on Saturday. 3 seconds later, I told him "We have a deal." Starting Saturday, I will never leave my apartment again. Moral of the story? Best Buy, does in fact, not always suck.
Woa..that is awesome..I never knew BB does internet-price match. I'm going to have to check that out.
best does have the worst customer service ever. And those extended warranty plans are BS. I remember they told my mom, when she brought her phone, that best buy will exhcnage it at any time even if nothing is wrong with the phone if u purchase the plan. And when she wanted to exchange it they BS her. Best buy full of ****. But i guess u got lucky this time.
Wow, that's awesome! I never knew they matched internet prices. I should try that out, because prices are generally a lot cheaper on the net.
Saimilar BS with my LCD monitor ...but I talked to the manager and got refunded x-warantee price and I ended up paying $220 for a 15" monitor....which I got upgraded from a 14".....so it's cool.
Many places will negotiate if you have the balls to ask them. "dragp" did and he even managed to work in some more masturbatory imagery...
My real beef with Best Buy is that everytime I get up the nerve to buy a b movie porno flick from their DVD selection there is always a cute girl working the checkouts and I can never go through with it.
After I paid and got everything squared, I asked the manager straight up, "Is it your policy to price match the Internet or did I catch you on a good day?" He said that they always are willing to look, and for the most part, they in fact will price match the Internet. I was stunned. Either way, it never hurts to ask. FWIW, I tried the same thing at Circuit City yesterday and the manager just rolled her eyes at me. For the first time, I bought Best Buy's extended warranty. Here's to hoping I'll never have to know whether it was a scam or not!
I have had no problems with the extended warranties. One of our systems is an emachine and we had the extended warranty on the monitor and pc. Well, the one button broke and so we took it in to be fixed. There was no fuss. They took it and fixed it. One of my other monitors I got for around $70 off the sticker price, plus an additional $15 off because it was on display at the store. They didn't ahve the model anymore, so I bought the display monitor. It was a good deal, I also got the extended waranty on that just in case.
The button broke on my monitor also and the idiot "tech" guy asked me how it broke? I told him that it is a button and you push it and we repeated that dialogue for about 3 more times. The guy was an jerk. Prior to that whole incident (there was more) I've returned my monitor 4-5 times on extended warranty due to bad pixels (which is allowable) and had no problems.
drapg, which Best Buy is this? That's really odd you got a sweet deal from Best Buy of all places....
BTW, the extended warranty on a DLP TV is almost a braindead purchase. Especially considering bulb replacements can run around $200-$300 and several models have been experiencing bulb burnouts. That and they'll probably need to be replaced once or twice during the ownership of the tv.
Galleria area. 610 and Richmond. Yup, the extended warranty was a must. Since it covers the bulb, I was willing to shell out any amount of cash. By the way, I'm CLEANING UP in Texas Hold 'Em right now! I just forced my opponents to go outside to take a smoke break b/c they were getting stressed. Good day all around!
i bought a PC at Best Buy 4 years ago along with the extended 3 year warranty. well, 2 1/2 years later, my pc was totally messed up. it kept freezing no matter what. i took it in and out 3 times b/c the problem never really got fixed. i turned it on and off so much where it literally wouldn't load anymore. after the 3 rd time i returned it, which was one month before my warranty was gonna expire, they couldn't get it to load it either. next thing i know, i'm going home with a brand new PC that was 10 times faster, 5 times more space, a DVD player, and windows XP. i was . the customer service is horrible but they had no quarrels about honoring the warranty. by the way, i later found out it was a bad dsl modem that was the problem.
