Just started glancing at the game before the half and I noticed the Rockets are playing pretty well. Just as they are officially eliminated from the playoffs, they start to play like world beaters. It's kind of frustrating, why couldn't they do this when it really counted. ------------------
We've improved 7 games since last season, and with 3 games to go it could well be a 10 game improvement. Just think that if next year we improve 7 games again (no reason why not with a young core which is gaining experience and what should be a fruitful off-season looming) then we would have 49-52 wins. That ain't bad! ------------------
It's just frustrating because the playoffs were there for the Rockets if they just would have taken care of business when they needed to. ------------------
The only thing that's frustrating is when the Rockets pull out a gutsy win with so many people hurt on the road against one of the top teams in the NBA and people are out to find the negatives and not the positives. ------------------ President of the Mo Taylor, Jason Collier, and draft Richard Jefferson fan club! Not really. They played the Grizz, and when you play the Grizz the game is essentially over before it starts. They were up about 25 in the 3rd quarter. Portland knew it was the biggest game of their season, it was on their home floor, and we just took it to them and proved pound for pound that even without Dream, Mo, KT, etc. we were by far the better team on the floor tonight. There is nothing that should or can be used to diminish this huge victory. ------------------ President of the Mo Taylor, Jason Collier, and draft Richard Jefferson fan club! Let me go on record to say, guys and gals, the draft pick will be more important to this team than the playoff experience. I know, I know; I wish we could be in the postseason, too. This team has many years together. I think we could have made the playoffs. CD and Rudy realize: one piece at a time. That draft pick could make a big difference in player drafted or a trade, maybe for a higher pick. It is frustrating, though. ------------------
I'm not trying to take anything away from the Rocket's win tonight, but I could see this coming. I knew when they were officially eliminated, they were going to start playing better. I'm sorry, but I'm tired of this moral victory crap. The playoffs is the thing, and until the Rockets get there, it's still going to be frustrating and disappointing. ------------------
So the Rockets have been playing badly all season according to you? I take that from your inference that they play badly while in contention..... Give them a break, so we lost to Dallas and Phoenix down the stretch; all games that would've been VERY handy to have put under our belts, but then again these are teams that SHOULD have beaten us - combine that with the fact that we were short-handed.... sure it would've been nice to win those games, but a loss there doesn't mean that the players just didn't care. ------------------
The Rockets have improved this season, no doubt. But when it came down to it, they just couldn't get the job done when they needed to, and to be that close and not get there is frustrating to me. I'm a big time Rocket fan, and I just want to see them competing in the playoffs again. This is the second year in a row they won't reach the playoffs. I hope this is the last year for a while that the team misses the playoffs, cause it just sucks. ------------------
Before everyone says "we're now playing like world beaters", Portland's been choking for a few weeks now. They are not playing like a playoff team. That team is on the decline and dropping like a brick fast. ------------------ Yugo grills, Yugo mills, Check out the oil my Yugo spills...
They might be chocking right now, but they're still in the playoffs. I remember the Rockets being in the 6th spot in '95 just like Portland is now, and you know what they did. Portland still is a scary team to a lot of people, and I'm sure teams aren't giddy about having to possibly get them in a playoff series. ------------------
Aw come on! The Rockets did good tonight. I had fun watching them...I was impressed they were able to come out and play with heart despite their season coming ot an end - especially with a lot of big folks down. Go Rockets!!!! ------------------ "I didn't like jr. high when I was there. Why would I want to watch it on tv?" P. Mesku's opinion about "Survivor"
Oh, ok. We beat a playoff team and played well. Fair enough. ------------------ Yugo grills, Yugo mills, Check out the oil my Yugo spills...
Wouldn't you know it. Dr of dunk has swooped in to try an downplay a fabulous Rocket victory. Boy, we kicked ass from start to finish and you think we played...well? Well, I guess you haven't see a thorough ass wuppin in a long time or you have forgotten what it feels like to be on the other end of one. The Fact is Dunk and mr. poo is that Kennedy, Delaney and their posse couldn't of crashed tonights hoe-down. The Rockets came in the the Rose Garden through the sunset two-stepping and rode out into the moonlight still doing the cotten-eye-joe. ------------------ [This message has been edited by ROCKETBOOSTER (edited April 14, 2001).]
Okay people, don't get me wrong. I'm proud the Rockets were able to make some good improvement this year. I'm glad they showed some pride last night and came through for a victory instead of laying down and calling it a season. But geez, my point was that it would have been nice if they could play like last night when they were still in contention. That's all I meant by this post. By no means was I trying to downplay the victory last night. I hope they win the rest of their games, if they do that they'll have the most victories by a non-playoff team ever. But seeing how they played Portland last night on their home floor, with a lot of their big men down, makes you wonder what kind of noice the Rockets could have made, full strength in the playoffs. ------------------
And the Rockets played well and I think will show much more of this next year as one of the top teams in the West. ------------------
