This max deal turn into a terrible one.

Without his salary they are going to have around 40 M in payroll next year with young all-star center and very good PF with a pretty nice contracts

Joe Johnson is terrible wow.....the Bulls game, this game..dumb decisions and dumb shots and bricking nearly all of them. Sure he'll score 20+ points but he plays 40 mins or more and is a volume scorer.

i wouldnt say he is terrible..but for what he gets paid like..which is an all star/superstar level..he is overrated..cant take over games..doesnt have that natural court vision..isnt a guy that can demand a double team...and to add to that he is probably at the peak of his prime r slowly declining..and the worst part..the guy is completely healthy..hasnt sustained alot of injuries throughout his career..

Don't forget about the fact that he would be picked on waivers for around 10 million deal so there is not that much money to pay him in the future due to that

The problem is I would still have to pay that guy the 90 million he's still owed... Even if he signs another contract I pay 70 million and the guy is productive for another team.

He is just so horrible though. No BBIQ AT ALL. Josh Smith as well

If they amnestied him, the Hawks would still have to pay the rest of his salary, which would cost them 80+ mil. Maybe they would amnesty him towards the end of his contract where he earns 25 mil./year, but it's too early at this point.

I always laughed at that contract he signed. Hawks' GM aint too bright, he was never really THAT good.

who exactly were the hawks bidding against when joe was an FA? besides themselves i mean? the worst thing that ever happened to them was that 7 game series against the celtics.

I think it was the Knicks. The Hawks figured he would take less money from them so they went off the deep end to keep him. b4l can fill in the details, but it was believed by many the Hawks were going to let him walk and everyone was shocked when they came in late with $120 million.

Can't decide whether the Hawks should use their amnesty on Joe Johnson, Marvin Williams, Josh Smith's 3-point shot or their fans.

so if they amnesty him, he gets his salary still, but none of it counts towards the salary cap right?

Correct, which is why they won't amnesty him unless his production drops dramatically.

The amnesty thing is made for big market franchises, not teams like the Hawks.
