Would you trade Tmac and Artest for Brand and Miller?

    Hear me out.

The most prevalent complaints on this board recently have been:

    1) Tmac needs to go, but has no value left tradewise.
    2) Artest does not fit the offense and either he or Tmac, or both must go.
    3) We need a big time upgrade at PG.

    Why Houston does it:

    1) We get Andre Miller to become the starting PG. He is not a great outside shooter, but is hitting 34 percent from 3 this year, well over his career average. More importantly, he solidifies the position and pushes Rafer to the bench without making a slumping Brooks our starter. Yes he may leave after the season, but that is the same for Artest. And he is a clear upgrade as opposed to going after Watson or Ridnour.
    2) Brand gives us a second legit post up option. Unlike Tmac, Ron, Scola, Battier, or Landry, Brand can be reasonably expected to score in the post.
    3) Brand can legitimately play back up C. It seems clear Deke is not going to play unless Yao goes down for a long period and even then he may not. Playing Yao 34 min, and Brand the remaining 14 min at C and maybe 20 min at PF doesnt cut into too many of Scola's minutes. Landry loses some min at PF but more SF mins open up for him, which the team seems interested in trying anyway.
    4) It clearly makes this Yao's team and depending on your view of Brand and Miller, gives us some value for Tmac and Artest

    Why Houston doesnt do it:

    1) We lose the 2010 flexibility. Basically Les has to decide if guaranteeing we get Brand is a big enough pick up compared to chasing the Lebron, Wade, Bosh, Amare etc....... and possibly ending up with nothing
    2) We become pretty thin at the wing position. Battier becomes the starting SF, Wafer the SG, and Miller the PG. It leaves Landry, Barry, Alston and Brooks as the back ups, assuming Landry can handle the SF position. Brooks has played some SG with Alston, and there is still Head or hopefully a wing player he could net in a trade now that backup C is not a big concern. Plus its easier to sign a decent back up wing player (ie: Mike Harris) then it is a back up C or PG.
    3) Brand has been shown to be often injured and has a huge contract. The injury thing is a wash since Tmac is no healthier. The contract is a concern, but again you just have to decide if you feel Brand is a legit star in the league.

    Why Philadelphia does it:

    1) Brand has not seemed to fit in and apparently they have made him available. The team seemed to be up and coming last year without him and played much better when he was out this year. Not sure Tmac helps them much with his style of play, but they get huge cap relief in 2010 and rid themselves of Brand's contract.
    2) Philadelphia would be gambling that Artest and Tmac help, but if not they are a borderline playoff team anyway and are worried about losing Miller for nothing. This at least doesnt make them horribly worse, and makes them 2010 players which they are not at this point.

    Why Philadelphia doesnt do it:

    1) It leaves them without a solid PG. Either Louis Williams or Royal Ivey becomes their starter, course Tmac would probably handle a lot of the playmaking like he does here. At PF they have Reggie Evans, Donyell Marshall, and the rookier Speights to handle the position. Plus Thaddeus Young and even Artest could play some PF.
    2) They may lose Artest for nothing, but like I said, same goes for Miller.
    3) They would basically be like us with three wings to start at two spots since Iguodala is there. Not sure if Artest would be willing to be a sixth man there.

Basically I break it down into two trades. Would you trade Tmac for Brand.

Would you trade Artest for Andre Miller (Is that better then Mike Miller).

And more importantly, do you think Philadelphia would be interested at all.

If we throw in Scola or Landry and they throw in Thaddeus Young, then yes.

If Elton Brand comes here, the first game he plays he dislocates his shoulder and again and is out for the season, NO THANKS!

If T-mac and Ron play liked they played against the Knicks it would turn off Philly anyway.

BTW doesn't matter what we think the trade won't happen. And another injury prone player involved.

    Wtf, terrible trade.

Even though TMac and Artest are sucking right now, they are still way better than Brand and Miller talent wise.

Houston would be silly not to take that deal but there is no way in hell that Philly does that trade. They have Igudola and Young at the 2/3/4 spots. It also laaves them with Lou Williams playing PG and he is more of a SG in a PG's body.

Sorry man, but you're absolutely dreaming...

Id go for a trade like... Tmac or Artest + Landry for Joe Johnson + fillers. Atlanta does it to get free cap space for 2010

where did u get brand didnt fit in??? he's been injured for about a month and a half and just came back, he was doing well before and it was dalembert who was struggling next to brand. Philly would never do this deal and therefore nothing else matters.
