I think the numbers work, and we can get rid of mo's contract.

No way. Shareef is not big enough to handle the PF spot all by himself. In addition, that would leave us WAY too thin at the 4 spot. JH and MoT can take care of the PF duties for us this year.

reef is a slightly better version of jhoward who is a slightly better version than motay. i think it just leaves us with less depth up front for a player who is only marginally better than what we already have.

because shareef wants out and taylor doesn't require minutes as much as reef . then they can trade howard if they want to

    no.

And I'm sure Portland would rather let SAR's contract expire(which they wont have to, since they should get better offers than this) than take on Mo's fat contract only to have him play 15mpg behind their best player.

If you could somehow assure me we would sign Marcus Fizer to the 1.6 million exception, like we immediately signed Jimmy Jackson after the Rice deal last year, the answer is yes.

I would do it - since we have Spoon already too. But we would then be thin at PF

and Reef does not want to bang with the big boyz

Why propose 2 of our PF's for one of theirs? SAR is a better player than Howard and MoT, but not better than the two combined.

You're not thinking of the business aspect; SAR has an expiring deal. Mo has three more years left, Howard has five. They aren't very tradeable, and neither is as good as Shareef by a longshot.

That said, I would do this if I knew Weatherspoon would be coming into camp in shape. But when was the last time that happened?

So if Shareef bolts after this year to another team, who do we have at PF? We can't count on getting an above average free agent.

With the boatload of PFs they have, I don't think they need 2 more. SAR would be nice, but Portland wouldn't go for it.

Get rid of two bad contracts
    Get a better player
Contract comes off the books after this season

We don't need a superstar PF of the future for a team loaded with two superstars already. All we need is tough, defensive minded workhorse that can rebound and provide some occasional offense. Not saying Fizer is our dream PF, but he could certainly be a possibility to fit that role. If that fails, we sign somebody next offseason and/or develop Malick Badiane.

    No,

I think Howard almost gives you the same thing as Shareef.

Yes, and only because I don't think we will win a title this year with Mo/Howard, and Reef comes off the books next year.
