I felt that this trade could have been made at the same time that the rockets traded for rafer alston. The need for more of a scorer from that position can be seen with the injury to TMac. Peterson is younger, bigger, and just plain better. The rockets may have to add a second round pick to make this trade happen. WHy would the Raptors do this? First of all, Peterson is unhappy in Toronto. He is playing behind Joey Graham and with MoPete out of town it give Toronto more of a change to play rookies Graham and Charlie Villanueva. The Raptors are off to an 0-5 start and things are not going to get much better for them this year. They have a bunch of cap room for this summer and could add to it by picking up Wesley in the last year of his contract.
Let’s see....get younger, taller, more athletic, and better outside shooting. YES do this trade in a heartbeat. Unfortunately the Raptors aren’t that stupid. If we throw in a first round pick then maybe, but straight up no way.
give wesley a break. he's in there playing pretty good D night in and night out. i doubt morris peterson could have kept up with vince carter all night. and plus, wesley's getting his shot back. with tmac healthy again, he should be getting more wide open looks like he saw tonight.
Hey its not like Toronto could get any worse. They are 0-5. Plus they would have even more cap room for next summer. Besides the raptors gm has made countless bad moves.
(i was about to start another thread about this, but decided against it... considering, like, every other thread is about Wesley) did anyone else find it curious how, at the tail-end of the postgame interview with Wesley, Bill said something to the effect of "well, we know you're gonna be with us for the rest of the season, and we thank you for your 4th quarter contributions..." don't ask me how i remember this odd choice of words, i guess it was just so surreal. anyway, that's just an odd sentence to finish out an interview with, if you ask me.
Wesley's D wasn't bad. I watched the game in person today and he was probably the most active perimeter defender on our squad. On the other hand, DA's was just terrible today.
people are forgetting, anything is possible with toronto, look what new jersey gave up for vince carter! wesley did play well tonight though. it was nice to see him get his head out of his ass and play well for once this season.
i dont like this trade at all and im sure many will jump on me for it. here are my reasons. i watched alot of mopetes games and although he can be a good shooter for stretches, you dont know what you will get from him on a game to game basis. he also is VERY soft defensively and doesnt show much passion on the court. wesley provides hustle and intangibles to this team and is a willing passer. he is a much better defender than mopete and shows much more intensity and fire, which as a team you can never have enough of. also, why have mopete if you already have derek anderson? they provide very similar games as far as im concerned.
I would jump all over that trade if the Rockets could. But I doubt the Raptors would move Peterson just for cap purposes. They would have to get some sort of asset in return. Peterson would be a great fit in Houston. He is young, so he can grow with the Tmac/Swift/Yao core. Peterson has nice size at the swingman position at 6'8". That's something we dont have. He is atheltic, is a good perimeter defender and can hit the 3pt shot. All attributes that we are looking for. He isnt quite as gritty as Wesley, but you can't get everything. Having Peterson's size at the swingman spot next to Tmac would be nice. It was painful to watch VC back down Wesley last night. We need size there. If I were the Rockets I certainly would keep my eyes on Peterson as the season goes on. The Raptors are terrible and they MAY be looking to move players as the trading deadline approaches. But I dont see them wanting Wesley's expiring deal just for Peterson.
