Following on a thread in hangout, http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=113508&page=1&pp=20, on the subject of an asteroid coming close to Earth and the US government putting key people down in bunkers for an undisclosed amount of time possibly hinting that the government might know something more than what they are telling us brings up a philosophical question. If you were the President and you knew that a major disaster was going to befall the Earth and there wasn't much you could do about it would you tell the public? In Armegedon and Deep Impact the President tells the public and while people in Armegedon seem remarkably calm about it its very likely that mass panic would break out so that even if the disater could be averted a lot of damage would still happen from people freaking out. If the disaster couldn't be averted would it be better to just let people die in ignorance rather than panic and fear?
God decided He was finally fed up with the human race and decided to end it for good. He called up a reporter at the New York Times to tell him the news: The world would end the day after tomorrow. The reporter tried to talk God out of it, but God was firm and wouldn't be swayed. The reporter then asked if he had an exclusive. God said that He was going to call three other newspapers. Headlines the next day: The New York Times: "God says world to end tomorrow; story and analysis on page B11." The Wall Street Journal: "God says world to end tomorrow; market to close early" USA Today: "IT'S OVER!" The Washington Post: "God says world to end tomorrow; women and minorities hardest hit." Fox News: "God says world to end tomorrow; Natalie Holloway's mother to appear with Greta."
I wouldn't, because they would never believe me. I would probably end up in a institution, on some medication. I would tell my closest friends, and the people who i think would believe me.
I personally would wanna know so that I could do all the crazy stuff I've always wanted to do without having to worry about reprecussions
I would tell my family and that is about it. Then I would call Billy Bob and Bruce to see if they had any ideas to stop it.
This question was posed in Astronomy class by our crazy old professor in order to scare some sense into us... after a couple seconds of unbearable silence and sobreity throughout... the dork of the class with his thick foreign accent pipes up and says "I'd go find my girlfriend... and HAVE SEX with her all night long!" The class roared for a good 5 minutes and even the professor couldn't stifle a grin.
I would let the people know if just to save face. There are too many leaks within any government. No way in hell does the impending end of civilization stay under wraps!
The question specifically had to do with if you were the US President, or in your case the PM of Holland. If the PM of Holland knew I'm guessing there's already a lot of other people already.

Nah, I'd start building the world's largest 100 year bunker, and christen it's opening by hosting a Miss America pageant. In the meanwhile, I'd lower taxes, preach faith based initiatives and make pleasant sounding programs like helping Africa with billions of dollars and leaving no kid behind.
