Would you take Tom Gugliotta?

I haven't heard any rumors involving the Rockets going after Googs, but I was over at RealGM and they said that Phoenix is desperate to dump Googs and may throw in draft picks because he doesn't fit their style or team. My question is, he has 3 years left on his contract (this year and 2 years after this year), and if an offer were to pop up, would you trade Cato to Phoenix for Gugliotta? Googs stats have dropped considerably in the last year or two since his injury and seizure, but I wonder if it's because of injuries, or his inability to fit in on that team. He is still productive. Would you trade Cato for Gugliotta? The contracts cancel each other out as far as long term deals, in fact I think Cato may have 4 years left on his deal.

we'd have to add Walt to make it work capwise.

Houston trades: Walt Williams $5,000,000 to Phoenix
Houston trades: Kelvin Cato $6,048,000 to Phoenix
    TOTAL: $11,048,000

Phoenix trades: Tom Gugliotta $10,113,465 to Houston (plus Trade Kicker $1,575,329)
    TOTAL: $10,113,465

    TRADE ACCEPTED

What are we going to be able to do with Walt's freed up money slot next year? Will there be any free agents that we might be interested in picking up? I'd love to dump Cato, but it might be beneficial to keep Walt since he is in the last year of his contract.

    Uh, no.

Googs is nowhere near the player he used to be, and I don't foresee him being anywhere close to being back.

He is VERY VERY slow and does not fit on the Rockets.

Offensively, his game is reduced to jump shots.

He is nowhere near the value of his contract.

I would take Vin Baker before I take Googs.

We wont have any freed money next year. We are so much over the cap, a measley 5 mill wont matter.

As for Cato for Googs, I think that would be a steal for us. Googs might suck, but he will already add one game to our win total every year. Remember he is always hitting those damn game winning buzzer beater against us. And that one win is more then anything Cato could muster up.

If Rudy can trade Cato for Googs, I would go over to his house and kiss his feet.

We're not that much over the cap. If we trade Cato for Tyrone Hill, whose contract expires in 2003, we can make a run at Rashard Lewis.

    rockets 2003
    F- Lewis
    F - Taylor
    C - Griffin (hopefully)
    G - Francis
    G - Mobley

No way would Cleveland take Cato's contract. They've spent the last few years dumping contracts like these. Besides I don't want you guys to think of it contract wise so much as, player for player, talent for talent would you take Googs for Cato?

Tyrone Hill is a test tube baby. Didn't you watch the playoffs last year. He is horrible. As far as Cato for Googs, Phoenix would never do it. They are trying to trade for Jahidi White or Raef Lafrentz. Why would they stoop down and trade for the most overpaid player(Cato) in league history.

For a brief moment, I thought you were describing Glen Rice. :)
In a sprint from foul line to foul line, I'd put my money on Googs over Rice.

Bottomline....when was the last Rockets fastbreak you can recall? (Willis' full court pass to Steve vs SAC doesn't count).

It would be nice to see a PF hit all those 22" jumpers that Kenny Thomas seems to be so good at missing. He be nice to help spread the floor, but other than that, we'd lead the league in slightly soft, slightly undersized big guys who don't like to mix it up inside.

Just want to point out that Phoenix would not take Cato anyway. They have two centers (both European) that are doing great.

    Jake Tsakilidis

    and Jake Voskuhl

The funny part is, the Bulls either cut or trade the latter because they thought he was useless. But he's doing great off the bench.

Dude, I hate to be the one to point it out, but Jake Voskuhl is from Houston. Just because he has a funky name doesn't make him a Euro.

I don't want Googs. He has a bigger contract than Cato and plays the same position as Mo Taylor, KT, and (probably) Eddie. Plus, knee injuries scare me after the whole Brent Price thing. Didn't he break three knees in two days or something?

I meant if we just got rid of Walt. Getting rid of Cato and Walt opens up a whole new can of worms.

.... of course if you'd seen him play you would've known he wasn't European straight away because his white skin distinguishes him from those white skinned Europeans....

I'd take Googs in a flash. He'd open up our running game by giving us a big PF rebounder in the frontcourt, and despite the fact that he hasn't played much lately, that jumper of his is exactly what we're missing with Mo out!
